Specification

The requirement exactly as authored — its complete prose text and, where present, the formal FRETish sentence it compiles to.

Description

When ParseString receives a well-formed raw JSON string literal body, the parser shall return the corresponding decoded Go string value. Escape is the RFC 8259 inverse of Unescape/ParseString: Escape(in) returns in encoded as a JSON string literal including the surrounding quotation marks, escaping the mandatory characters (quotation mark, reverse solidus, control characters U+0000–U+001F) and any non-ASCII bytes as \uXXXX sequences, so the result is a valid JSON string token suitable for direct embedding in a JSON document.

FRETish formula
the parser shall always satisfy !raw_string_literal_is_well_formed | returns_parsestring_value

Rationale & tags

Why this requirement exists, and how it is categorised.

ParseString success on valid encoded strings should be specified independently from malformed-string rejection.

Discharged

Behavior specified for encoding and decoding round-trips.

If it were violatedHigh

ParseString on a raw body containing a malformed UTF-8 sequence (e.g. a lone surrogate) returns a Go string with invalid runes; the caller re-serializes it as invalid JSON or panics in encoding-aware downstream like bufio.

MC/DC truth table· 3 rows

Each row assigns the formula's conditions (T/F) and shows the Result— the formula's value for that input row, not a test pass/fail. A row proves a condition when flipping only that condition flips the outcome. The test that covers each row is linked.
