When ParseFloat receives a malformed numeric token, the parser shall return the documented malformed-value error.

This requirement changed after its last recorded review, so approval is stale. Automated checks pass.

Specification

The requirement exactly as authored — its complete prose text and, where present, the formal FRETish sentence it compiles to.

Description

When ParseFloat receives a malformed numeric token, the parser shall return the documented malformed-value error.

FRETish formula
the parser shall always satisfy raw_float_token_is_well_formed | returns_parsefloat_error

Rationale & tags

Why this requirement exists, and how it is categorised.

Malformed-token failure is externally visible and should be specified independently from valid ParseFloat success behavior.

The invariant raw_float_token_is_well_formed | returns_parsefloat_error is met: ParseFloat (parser.go:2158) delegates to the internal parseFloat, which is strconv.ParseFloat(string(*b), 64) in both build variants (bytes_unsafe.go:26 and bytes_safe.go:16), and strconv returns a non-nil error for any malformed numeric token. On that error path ParseFloat maps it to the documented MalformedValueError and returns 0, so a malformed token like notafloat always yields an error while 3.14 parses cleanly. The MCDC witness rows and TestParseFloat (parser_test.go:2235) confirm both partitions, and no KI is attached to this requirement.

Obligations

What this requirement must witness to be considered satisfied — the required evidence, and the tests that discharge each one.

The tests that discharge each obligation need a synced audit

The evidence matrix behind each obligation comes from the audit index, which is produced by running an audit — not read from git. Nothing here means unknown — not that the requirement has no obligations.

Formula evidence

The formal formula behind this requirement, the variables it is written over, and the tests that exercise it (each term is explained inline).

FRETish formula

the parser shall always satisfy raw_float_token_is_well_formed | returns_parsefloat_error

Variables

NameTypeDirectionDescription
raw_float_token_is_well_formedTrue when ParseFloat receives a well-formed floating-point number token.
returns_parsefloat_errorTrue when ParseFloat returns the documented malformed-value error for a malformed numeric token.

MC/DC truth table· 3 rows

Each row assigns the formula's conditions (T/F) and shows the Result— the formula's value for that input row, not a test pass/fail. A row proves a condition when flipping only that condition flips the outcome. The test that covers each row is linked.
