Original report

Quickshell crashes with SIGSEGV in QSGRenderThread when Hyprland monitor is set to 10-bit (bitdepth = 10)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:24 UTC via poll

Problem Description

When configuring a monitor in Hyprland with 10-bit color depth (bitdepth = 10), quickshell crashes immediately with Signal 11 (SIGSEGV) in QSGRenderThread upon creating/swapping buffers for the 10-bit (XBGR2101010 / XRGB2101010) surface format.

This prevents users doing color-critical work (video/photo editing) from utilizing 10-bit display pipelines in Omarchy.

Environment

  • OS: Omarchy 4.0.2 (Arch Linux)
  • Compositor: Hyprland 0.56.2
  • GPU & Driver: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (Driver 610.57.04)
  • Shell: Quickshell (Omarchy default shell)
  • Displays: ASUS ROG OLED via HDMI 2.1 / Internal eDP display

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In ~/.config/hypr/monitors.lua, set bitdepth = 10:
   hl.monitor({
     output = "HDMI-A-1",
     mode = "2560x1440@240",
     scale = 1,
     bitdepth = 10,
     cm = "dcip3",
   })
  1. Reload Hyprland (hyprctl reload).
  2. Framebuffer format changes to XBGR2101010 / XRGB2101010.
  3. quickshell crashes with SIGSEGV.

Expected Behavior

Quickshell / Qt Wayland client should negotiate compatible EGL buffer configurations or handle 10-bit surface formats without crashing.

### Problem Description
When configuring a monitor in Hyprland with 10-bit color depth (`bitdepth = 10`), `quickshell` crashes immediately with Signal 11 (SIGSEGV) in `QSGRenderThread` upon creating/swapping buffers for the 10-bit (`XBGR2101010` / `XRGB2101010`) surface format.

This prevents users doing color-critical work (video/photo editing) from utilizing 10-bit display pipelines in Omarchy.

### Environment
- **OS:** Omarchy 4.0.2 (Arch Linux)
- **Compositor:** Hyprland 0.56.2
- **GPU & Driver:** NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (Driver 610.57.04)
- **Shell:** Quickshell (Omarchy default shell)
- **Displays:** ASUS ROG OLED via HDMI 2.1 / Internal eDP display

### Steps to Reproduce
1. In `~/.config/hypr/monitors.lua`, set `bitdepth = 10`:
   ```lua
   hl.monitor({
     output = "HDMI-A-1",
     mode = "2560x1440@240",
     scale = 1,
     bitdepth = 10,
     cm = "dcip3",
   })
   ```
2. Reload Hyprland (`hyprctl reload`).
3. Framebuffer format changes to `XBGR2101010` / `XRGB2101010`.
4. `quickshell` crashes with SIGSEGV.
