Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

workspace-layouts.lua: saved layouts fail to load (module 'omarchy.workspace-layouts.N' not found)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:24 UTC via poll

Description

After toggling a workspace layout once with omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle, every Hyprland config reload fails with an error overlay:

require("default.hypr.workspace-layouts"): /usr/share/omarchy/default/hypr/require_all.lua:32: module 'omarchy.workspace-layouts.1' not found:
no file '/home/d3v/.local/state/omarchy/toggles/hypr/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
no file '/home/d3v/.config/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
no file '/usr/share/omarchy/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
...

Cause

default/hypr/workspace-layouts.lua does:

local layouts_dir = paths.state_home .. "/omarchy/workspace-layouts"
require_all.files(layouts_dir, "omarchy.workspace-layouts", { reload = true })

The toggle script writes ~/.local/state/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua, and require_all translates that into require("omarchy.workspace-layouts.1"). Nothing adds ~/.local/state/?.lua to package.path. toggles.lua handles its own directory by prepending toggles_dir .. "/?.lua;", but workspace-layouts.lua does not do the equivalent.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Fresh Omarchy 4.0.2.
  2. Toggle any workspace layout (Super+... bound to omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle), which creates ~/.local/state/omarchy/workspace-layouts/<ws>.lua.
  3. hyprctl reload, then hyprctl configerrors.

Expected: layout restored, no error. Actual: module-not-found error overlay on every reload.

Fix

Either prepend the path in workspace-layouts.lua, mirroring toggles.lua:

package.path = paths.state_home .. "/?.lua;" .. package.path

or pass nil as the prefix and add layouts_dir .. "/?.lua;" to package.path.

Workaround

Add os.getenv("HOME") .. "/.local/state/?.lua;" to package.path at the top of ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.lua.

## Description

After toggling a workspace layout once with `omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle`, every Hyprland config reload fails with an error overlay:

```
require("default.hypr.workspace-layouts"): /usr/share/omarchy/default/hypr/require_all.lua:32: module 'omarchy.workspace-layouts.1' not found:
no file '/home/d3v/.local/state/omarchy/toggles/hypr/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
no file '/home/d3v/.config/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
no file '/usr/share/omarchy/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua'
...
```

## Cause

`default/hypr/workspace-layouts.lua` does:

```lua
local layouts_dir = paths.state_home .. "/omarchy/workspace-layouts"
require_all.files(layouts_dir, "omarchy.workspace-layouts", { reload = true })
```

The toggle script writes `~/.local/state/omarchy/workspace-layouts/1.lua`, and `require_all` translates that into `require("omarchy.workspace-layouts.1")`. Nothing adds `~/.local/state/?.lua` to `package.path`. `toggles.lua` handles its own directory by prepending `toggles_dir .. "/?.lua;"`, but `workspace-layouts.lua` does not do the equivalent.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Fresh Omarchy 4.0.2.
2. Toggle any workspace layout (Super+... bound to `omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle`), which creates `~/.local/state/omarchy/workspace-layouts/<ws>.lua`.
3. `hyprctl reload`, then `hyprctl configerrors`.

Expected: layout restored, no error. Actual: module-not-found error overlay on every reload.

## Fix

Either prepend the path in `workspace-layouts.lua`, mirroring `toggles.lua`:

```lua
package.path = paths.state_home .. "/?.lua;" .. package.path
```

or pass `nil` as the prefix and add `layouts_dir .. "/?.lua;"` to `package.path`.

## Workaround

Add `os.getenv("HOME") .. "/.local/state/?.lua;"` to `package.path` at the top of `~/.config/hypr/hyprland.lua`.
