Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Apps section of the Quickshell menu shows "Nothing here yet" despite installed apps being present (e.g. LibreOffice)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

On Omarchy 4.0.0.alpha (Quickshell 0.3.1), opening the omarchy menu (Super+Space) → Apps shows "Nothing here yet" — the Apps list is permanently empty, even though the relevant apps are installed and their .desktop files are perfectly valid.

Repro:
1. omarchy-menu summon apps (or Super+Space → Apps)
2. Apps list is empty

Happens consistently, including immediately after omarchy-restart-shell (full process restart) and via direct IPC (omarchy-menu summon apps), so it's not just a cold-boot race.

*What I've confirmed it's not:*
- Desktop-entry scanning is fine — Quickshell's DesktopEntries.applications backend finds all entries (confirmed via the quickshell log, journalctl).
- AppLibrary.qml (/usr/share/omarchy/shell/services/AppLibrary.qml) itself is fine — I loaded the real, unmodified file standalone in an isolated quickshell -n -p harness, and sortedEntries("") correctly returns all apps including libreoffice-calc/libreoffice-impress/libreoffice-writer.
- Not a launcher.hides filtering issue — none of those entries are in the hidden list.

Suspected area: /usr/share/omarchy/shell/plugins/menu/Menu.qml, startProviderForMenu/mergeAppRows (~lines 291, 330–341). providersLoaded["apps"] is set true before mergeAppRows() confirms it got data from shell.appLibrary; if that returns nothing on the first call, nothing seems to force a successful re-population afterward (there is an appsChanged Connections block intended to refresh it, but empirically the list never recovers).

Environment: Omarchy 4.0.0.alpha, Quickshell 0.3.1-1, Hyprland session.
