Original report
Summary
On Microsoft Surface Book 2, the touchscreen works under Windows but not under Omarchy (or stock Arch/Ubuntu kernels). Keyboard and touchpad are fine.
Cause
Book 2 (and other IPTS-era Surfaces) use Intel Precise Touch & Stylus. Upstream/linux has no IPTS driver, so no touchscreen input node appears. Omarchy’s install/hardware/surface.sh only installs linux-firmware-marvell — not enough for touch.
Confirmed on Omarchy 4.0.x (linux 7.1.9-arch1-2):
- PCI: Intel iTouch Controller 8086:9d3e
- No ipts module, no IPTS/IPTSD devices in /proc/bus/input/devices
Fix (verified)
Install linux-surface kernel + userspace + firmware, boot that kernel:
# key + [linux-surface] repo per https://pkg.surfacelinux.com/arch/
pacman -S linux-surface linux-surface-headers iptsd surface-ipts-firmware
# Limine: prefer linux-surface (keep stock linux as fallback)
# reboot → uname -r should contain "surface"After reboot on this machine:
- ipts loaded, iptsd@….service running
- Touchscreen + stylus virtual devices present; touch works
Ready PR
#7857 already implements the installer path (repo key, packages, Limine drop-in, tests). Please see the Surface Book 2 verification comment there for two extras that mattered on this hardware:
- Install
surface-ipts-firmwareas well - Prefer
linux-surfaceas default boot so touch works without a manual menu pick
