ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Original report
Title: Bar: hovering the center section slides neighbouring widgets under a stationary pointer
Environment
- Omarchy 4.0.0.alpha
- omarchy-shell (Quickshell 0.3.1)
- Hyprland 0.56.2
- Bar position: top
Summary
Moving the pointer into the center of the bar triggers a visible layout shift: omarchy.indicators expands from width 0 to full width, which pushes the neighbouring center widgets (clock, weather, custom widgets…) sideways — under a pointer that hasn't moved. Small pointer movements near that zone re-trigger the collapse/expand, so the widgets oscillate and the pointer effectively "loses" whatever it was aimed at. It reads as the widgets tugging at the cursor and makes it hard to click a specific center widget.
The shell source already acknowledges this in plugins/bar/Bar.qml:
// Revealing the indicators widens their section, which can slide a neighbour// under a stationary pointer. Collapsing on that un-hover would move it back
There's a damping timer (centerSectionRevealTimer) that softens it, but the underlying behaviour — hovering the center reflows the center — remains.
Steps to reproduce
- Put at least one widget in the
centersection next toomarchy.indicators(e.g. the defaultomarchy.clock). - Have one or more indicators currently inactive (so the reveal has something to reveal).
- Slowly move the pointer horizontally across the center of the bar and try to land on the clock (or another center widget).
Expected
The center widgets stay put. Hovering reveals indicator detail without moving anything the pointer is aimed at.
Actual
omarchy.indicators expands, the center section widens, and the clock/other widgets slide under the pointer. Near the reveal threshold, tiny movements toggle it and the widgets jitter.
Contributing factor (secondary)
With the bar at the top, the pointer can also sit exactly at y=0, on the boundary between a widget's hit area and the bare screen edge, so the cursor shape flickers between PointingHandCursor and ArrowCursor. The two shapes have different hotspots, so the rendered glyph visibly jumps. This compounds the perceived jitter but is independent of the reveal. (Worked around locally with Hyprland cursor:hotspot_padding = 1; might be worth the bar widgets extending their hit area to y=0, or the shell setting a small top inset.)
Suggestions
- Make
alwaysShow: truethe default foromarchy.indicators(no hidden UI, no reflow). Or, - Reserve the collapsed/expanded width difference so revealing doesn't change layout — animate opacity/detail in place, not width. Or,
- Reveal the inactive indicators as an overlay/popover that grows away from the bar rather than pushing in-line neighbours.
Local workaround
{ "id": "omarchy.indicators", "alwaysShow": true } in shell.json removes the center reflow entirely.

**Title:** Bar: hovering the center section slides neighbouring widgets under a stationary pointer
**Environment**
- Omarchy 4.0.0.alpha
- omarchy-shell (Quickshell 0.3.1)
- Hyprland 0.56.2
- Bar position: top
**Summary**
Moving the pointer into the center of the bar triggers a visible layout shift: `omarchy.indicators` expands from width 0 to full width, which pushes the neighbouring center widgets (clock, weather, custom widgets…) sideways — under a pointer that hasn't moved. Small pointer movements near that zone re-trigger the collapse/expand, so the widgets oscillate and the pointer effectively "loses" whatever it was aimed at. It reads as the widgets tugging at the cursor and makes it hard to click a specific center widget.
The shell source already acknowledges this in `plugins/bar/Bar.qml`:
> `// Revealing the indicators widens their section, which can slide a neighbour`
> `// under a stationary pointer. Collapsing on that un-hover would move it back`
There's a damping timer (`centerSectionRevealTimer`) that softens it, but the underlying behaviour — hovering the center reflows the center — remains.
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Put at least one widget in the `center` section next to `omarchy.indicators` (e.g. the default `omarchy.clock`).
2. Have one or more indicators currently *inactive* (so the reveal has something to reveal).
3. Slowly move the pointer horizontally across the center of the bar and try to land on the clock (or another center widget).
**Expected**
The center widgets stay put. Hovering reveals indicator detail without moving anything the pointer is aimed at.
**Actual**
`omarchy.indicators` expands, the center section widens, and the clock/other widgets slide under the pointer. Near the reveal threshold, tiny movements toggle it and the widgets jitter.
**Contributing factor (secondary)**
With the bar at the top, the pointer can also sit exactly at `y=0`, on the boundary between a widget's hit area and the bare screen edge, so the cursor shape flickers between `PointingHandCursor` and `ArrowCursor`. The two shapes have different hotspots, so the rendered glyph visibly jumps. This compounds the perceived jitter but is independent of the reveal. (Worked around locally with Hyprland `cursor:hotspot_padding = 1`; might be worth the bar widgets extending their hit area to `y=0`, or the shell setting a small top inset.)
**Suggestions**
- Make `alwaysShow: true` the default for `omarchy.indicators` (no hidden UI, no reflow). Or,
- Reserve the collapsed/expanded width difference so revealing doesn't change layout — animate opacity/detail in place, not width. Or,
- Reveal the inactive indicators as an overlay/popover that grows away from the bar rather than pushing in-line neighbours.
**Local workaround**
`{ "id": "omarchy.indicators", "alwaysShow": true }` in `shell.json` removes the center reflow entirely.
