ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

What's wrong?

What's wrong?
On hybrid laptops, the NVIDIA GPU is powered down while idle. However, the firmware can still send NVPCF notifications:
once per 1% of battery discharge, or every 4-5 minutes on the tested laptop;
after a platform-profile change, such as:
sudo sh -c 'echo balanced > /sys/firmware/acpi/platform_profile'

or manually changing through a GUI (Quiet <> Balanced <> Performance).

It seems to affect mostly ASUS G14/G16 2024/2025 on Intel or AMD.

This happens even when running on integrated mode with the DGPU powered off - and it is exactly when it hurts battery life the most.

Fix
This is due to a bug in the OSS Nvidia drivers, and the solution - awaiting it to be merged upstream - consists in recompiling the Nvidia drivers with the fix in https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules/pull/1299.

N.B.: Thanks to Krzysztof from the OmaDiscord for his help debugging this, the Open Gaming Collective discord for pointing towards the fix and the multiple GH contributors to the actual fix.
