Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report
Summary
Any Omarchy shell restart (crash recovery, omarchy restart shell, shell updates) re-maps the shell's omarchy-background layer above pre-existing third-party background layers, silently hiding animated wallpapers behind the static theme image. No error is shown; the wallpaper just "stops". Omarchy v4 has no native animated-wallpaper support, so mpvpaper is the community-standard way to run video wallpapers — and every shell restart currently breaks them.
Environment
- Hardware: Steam Deck LCD (VanGogh APU), docked (2560×1080 + panel). Omarchy-on-Deck is still rare — and Deck users coming from SteamOS expect video wallpapers to just keep working.
- Omarchy 4.0.0.alpha, Hyprland 0.56.2, mpvpaper 1.9
Steps to reproduce
- Start an animated wallpaper as a layer-shell background:
mpvpaper -o "loop=inf no-audio" '*' video.mp4— video visible,hyprctl layersshowsmpvpaperafteromarchy-background(on top) - Run
omarchy restart shell - Video is gone —
hyprctl layersnow shows the new shell'somarchy-backgroundaftermpvpaper(on top), painting the static theme image over it
Confirmed on both monitors; reproduced 100% of attempts. Not reproducible via omarchy-shell background set IPC alone (tested — same layer addresses persist); it's specifically the shell restart remapping.
Expected
Either the shell's background layer preserves stacking relative to existing background-namespace layers, or the interplay is documented with a supported hook for restarting external wallpaper services after shell startup.
Workaround
Restart the wallpaper service after every shell restart (re-maps its layer on top). Automating this currently requires scraping journal/IPC for shell restarts.
Happy to test patches on the Deck.
