Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Quick installation doesn't recognize a manually pre-created EFI partition during dual-boot setuprevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:24 UTC via poll

What's wrong

Dual-boot install. Before running the Omarchy installer, I manually partitioned the target disk with fdisk/cfdisk, creating a dedicated partition and setting its type to EFI System Partition, then wrote the table and exited.

When I ran the installer's "quick installation" flow, it did not recognize or offer that pre-created EFI partition at all — it behaved as if it expected a complete/whole disk to work with, rather than detecting and letting me select the existing ESP I'd already carved out.

Expected

"Quick installation" should detect pre-existing partitions (especially one already flagged as an EFI System Partition) and either reuse it automatically or offer it as a selectable option, instead of only supporting a full-disk layout.

Related

This looks like it's in the same neighborhood as a few other partition-handling reports:
- #7515 — free-space/alongside-existing-data install failing with non-OS partitions present
- #7867 — dual-boot install creates a redundant ESP instead of reusing the existing one
- #4579 — after install, only "EFI fallback" shows in the boot menu, other OS entry missing

I don't have the installer's source on hand to point at the exact detection logic (it runs from the live ISO, not shipped in the installed /usr/share/omarchy tree), so this is filed as a user report rather than a traced root cause — but the pattern across these issues suggests the "quick install" partitioning step generally doesn't account for partitions a user has already prepared ahead of time.

System details

Dual-boot install, disk pre-partitioned with fdisk/cfdisk (EFI System Partition type set manually) before running the Omarchy installer.
