Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

What's wrong?

Description

The Omarchy network speed test works correctly while the laptop is connected
only through wifi.

When I connect the laptop to my Dell monitor (using Thunderbolt) and its integrated rj45 port
becomes active, the speed test reports 0 Mbps, even though the ethernet connection itself works normally.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Connect a laptop to wifi.
  2. Run the Omarchy network speed test.
  3. Confirm that it reports the expected download and upload speeds.
  4. Connect a monitor with an integrated rj45 adapter.
  5. Leave wifi enabled while ethernet becomes the preferred connection.
  6. Run the Omarchy network speed test again.

Actual result

The speed test reports 0 Mbps. or a value closed to 0.

Suspected cause

Currently, the script /usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-network-speedtest uses ip route get 1.1.1.1, which checks the ipv4 route and may select wifi. However, because the subsequent curl requests are not bound to that interface, they may connect to fast.com over ipv6 and send the traffic through eth0 who has a lower metric. The script then measures the wifi interface instead of the interface carrying the traffic, resulting in a reported speed of 0 Mbps or closed to 0.

### What's wrong?

## Description

The Omarchy network speed test works correctly while the laptop is connected
only through wifi.

When I connect the laptop to my Dell monitor (using Thunderbolt) and its integrated rj45 port
becomes active, the speed test reports 0 Mbps, even though the ethernet connection itself works normally.

## Steps to reproduce

## Actual result

The speed test reports **0 Mbps.** or a value closed to 0.

## Suspected cause

Currently, the script `/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-network-speedtest` uses ip route get `1.1.1.1`, which checks the ipv4 route and may select wifi. However, because the subsequent curl requests are not bound to that interface, they may connect to fast.com over ipv6 and send the traffic through `eth0` who has a lower metric. The script then measures the wifi interface instead of the interface carrying the traffic, resulting in a reported speed of 0 Mbps or closed to 0.

Validation

Not checked yet. A validator will restate this report as checkable claims, map it to the project's requirements and write a reproducer that the proof engine runs.
