Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.
I am trying to install and run Omarchy inside VMware, but I consistently get a black screen after entering my password.

Description
I am trying to install and run [Omarchy](https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy) inside VMware, but I consistently get a black screen after entering my password.
The issue occurs on both of the following host systems:
- Windows 10 + VMware
- Ubuntu + VMware
The installation process completes successfully. However, after booting Omarchy and entering the login password, the screen becomes completely black. The mouse cursor is still visible and can be moved normally, but no desktop UI or other elements are displayed.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a new VMware virtual machine.
- Install Omarchy in the virtual machine.
- Boot into Omarchy.
- Enter the user password at the login screen.
- After authentication, the screen becomes black.
- The mouse cursor remains visible and responsive.
Expected Behavior
After entering the password, the Omarchy desktop environment should load normally.
Actual Behavior
The screen remains black after login, with only the mouse cursor visible.
Environment
Host 1:
- Windows 10
- VMware
- Omarchy guest
Host 2:
- Ubuntu
- VMware
- Omarchy guest
The problem is reproducible on both host operating systems.
Additional Information
Since the same issue occurs with both Windows 10 and Ubuntu as the VMware host, I suspect this may be related to VMware's virtual GPU, Wayland, graphics acceleration, or another compatibility issue rather than the host operating system itself.
Could anyone confirm whether Omarchy is currently expected to work inside VMware, or if there are any specific VMware graphics/VM configuration settings required?
Thanks!
