Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Fresh installs ship an unused vanilla `linux` kernel alongside `linux-omarchy`; its auto-generated Limine entry eventually gets booted (btrfs corruption crash report)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Summary

The Omarchy 4.0.4 ISO installer (archinstall-based) installs the stock Arch linux kernel in addition to linux-omarchy. The vanilla kernel is never used, but limine-entry-tool auto-generates a boot entry for every installed kernel. Three weeks after install, a boot landed on the stale vanilla kernel (7.2.3.arch1-3), whose btrfs implementation has a bug. Result: btrfs assertion failure → multi-CPU soft lockups → hard freeze, followed by uncorrectable filesystem metadata corruption on reboot (288 uncorrectable extents, incorrect extent count).

Evidence (from the affected machine, installed 2026-09-07)

archinstall installs both kernels on day one:

/var/log/archinstall/install.log:
[05:05:56] INFO - Installing packages: ['base', 'sudo', 'linux-firmware', 'mkinitcpio', 'linux', 'btrfs-progs', 'amd-ucode']

linux is not in Omarchy's own package list (omarchy-base.packages has no plain linux) — it comes from archinstall's default kernel set, unstripped by the Omarchy preset.

All boots for 3 weeks ran linux-omarchy. On 2026-09-27 the machine booted into the never-touched vanilla kernel via its Limine entry. Within 29h (2026-09-28):

watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#10 stuck for 11914s! [pactl:391623]
WARNING: fs/btrfs/delayed-inode.c:1404 at btrfs_assert_delayed_root_empty+0x5b/0xd0

After reboot: BTRFS error: incorrect extent count, ~100 checksum-verify failures (both mirrors), scrub reports 288 uncorrectable, 0 corrected.

Suggested fix

Either exclude linux from archinstall's kernel selection in the Omarchy preset, or remove it in a post-install step, so a fresh system only ever has linux-omarchy. Related: #10154, #12145 (same class: stale stock-kernel leftovers surviving into booted state).

System details

Omarchy 4.0.4-1, linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3, AMD mini-PC, btrfs + LUKS + Limine.
