Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.
Screen recording fails on Pascal GPUs: -fallback-cpu-encoding yes doesn't catch NVENC API version mismatch

Original report
What happened
omarchy screenrecord --fullscreen (and the capture menu) fail to start a
recording. gpu-screen-recorder exits instead of falling back to software
encoding, even though omarchy-capture-screenrecording already passes-fallback-cpu-encoding yes.
Debug log (OMARCHY_SCREENRECORD_DEBUG=true)
gsr info: using h264 encoder because a codec was not specified
[h264_nvenc] ignoring invalid SAR: 0/0
[h264_nvenc] Driver does not support the required nvenc API version. Required: 13.1 Found: 13.0
[h264_nvenc] The minimum required Nvidia driver for nvenc is 610.00 or newer
gsr error: Could not open video codec: Function not implementedRoot cause
NVIDIA driver 580.xx is the last driver branch supporting Pascal GPUs (e.g.
GTX 1060) per NVIDIA's own EOL announcement, and it only exposes NVENC API
13.0. gpu-screen-recorder 6.0.0 (built against a newer NVENC SDK) requires
13.1. This ceiling is permanent for Pascal hardware — no future driver will
raise it. -fallback-cpu-encoding yes appears to only guard encoder
detection, not this later avcodec_open2-time failure, so recording fails
hard instead of falling back to -encoder cpu. This may need a fix in
gpu-screen-recorder itself (dec05eba/gpu-screen-recorder), but filing here
per the contributing guide since that's where I found it.
Expected
Recording should transparently fall back to CPU/software encoding when GPU
encoding is unavailable for any reason, matching the documented behavior of-fallback-cpu-encoding yes.
System
- Omarchy: 4.0.0-1
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
- Driver: nvidia-580xx-utils/dkms 580.178.04-1.1
- gpu-screen-recorder: 6.0.0-1
- ffmpeg: 2:9.0.1-1
- Kernel: 7.1.8-arch1-3
- Session: Wayland/Hyprland
Workaround
Forcing -encoder cpu explicitly (instead of relying on the fallback flag)
records successfully.
