Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Light themes render the Chromium tab strip bright yellowrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:29 UTC via poll

System details

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 4080 SUPER, Chromium 151.0.7922.137

What's wrong?

With a light theme whose background is a near-white warm color (e.g. tufte, #fffcf0), the Chromium tab strip renders bright yellow (#ffde5a) instead of the theme color.

The state file and managed policy (/etc/chromium/policies/managed/color.json, BrowserThemeColor: #fffcf0) are correct. Chromium derives the tab strip color from the seed by darkening it while keeping hue and saturation; any channel at 255 counts as fully saturated (Skia HSL s=1.0), so the cream comes out as saturated yellow.

Dark themes and low-saturation light themes (e.g. latte #eff1f5) are unaffected.

Proposed fix

In omarchy-theme-set-browser, seed Chromium with the theme's muted dark_background surface only when the background is at least half saturated per Chromium's own HSL math:

s = (max-min) / (2*255-max-min) >= 0.5   i.e.   3*max - min >= 510

Use muted only for light, non-gray themes where that holds (tufte, flexoki-light, rose-pine). Pale/neutral light themes (latte, white) and all dark themes keep seeding with the background, which derives to itself.

### What's wrong?

With a light theme whose background is a near-white warm color (e.g. tufte, `#fffcf0`), the Chromium tab strip renders bright yellow (`#ffde5a`) instead of the theme color.

The state file and managed policy (`/etc/chromium/policies/managed/color.json`, `BrowserThemeColor: #fffcf0`) are correct. Chromium derives the tab strip color from the seed by darkening it while keeping hue and saturation; any channel at 255 counts as fully saturated (Skia HSL s=1.0), so the cream comes out as saturated yellow.

Dark themes and low-saturation light themes (e.g. latte `#eff1f5`) are unaffected.

### Proposed fix

In `omarchy-theme-set-browser`, seed Chromium with the theme's muted `dark_background` surface only when the background is at least half saturated per Chromium's own HSL math:

```
s = (max-min) / (2*255-max-min) >= 0.5   i.e.   3*max - min >= 510
```

Use muted only for light, non-gray themes where that holds (tufte, flexoki-light, rose-pine). Pale/neutral light themes (latte, white) and all dark themes keep seeding with the background, which derives to itself.
