Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Obsidian shortcut never focuses a running window: ^obsidian$ no longer matches md.obsidian.Obsidianrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:29 UTC via poll

System details

Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, Intel Arc B390, Omarchy 4.0.0-1, Hyprland 0.56.2, obsidian 1.13.7-1

What's wrong?

Obsidian changed its Wayland app_id from obsidian to md.obsidian.Obsidian. The Obsidian binding still matches the old one, so SUPER + SHIFT + O no longer finds a running window. It launches Obsidian when it is closed and does nothing when Obsidian is already open.

  1. Press SUPER + SHIFT + O. Obsidian opens on the current workspace.
  2. Switch to another workspace.
  3. Press SUPER + SHIFT + O again. Nothing happens.

default/hypr/bindings/applications.lua:18 passes focus = "^obsidian$". omarchy-launch-or-focus wraps it as \b<pattern>\b and tests it against .class:

^obsidian$                -> no match
^md\.obsidian\.Obsidian$  -> 0x564c25558900

With no match the script always takes the launch branch, which is only correct while Obsidian is closed. Otherwise the second Electron instance hits the single-instance lock, hands off and exits, and the existing window is never raised.

The anchor came from #1838, when Obsidian still reported class obsidian. The app is closed source, so there is no upstream commit to link, but its Flathub packaging tracked both steps of the change: fe13e901 (obsidian to md.Obsidian) and 9faa72b7 ("Update StartupWMClass to match changed ID", md.Obsidian to md.obsidian.Obsidian).

Fix, keeping the anchoring from #1838:

focus = "^md\\.obsidian\\.Obsidian$"

Tested both branches: focuses across workspaces without spawning a second process, and still launches when closed.

Not covered by #4927 and #4928. Matching only .class does not help while the pattern cannot match.

### What's wrong?

Obsidian changed its Wayland app_id from `obsidian` to `md.obsidian.Obsidian`.

`default/hypr/bindings/applications.lua:18` passes `focus = "^obsidian$"`. `omarchy-launch-or-focus` wraps it as `\b<pattern>\b` and tests it against `.class`:

```
^obsidian$                -> no match
^md\.obsidian\.Obsidian$  -> 0x564c25558900
```

With no match the script always takes the launch branch, which is only correct while Obsidian is closed. Otherwise the second Electron instance hits the single-instance lock, hands off and exits, and the existing window is never raised.

The anchor came from #1838, when Obsidian still reported class `obsidian`. The app is closed source, so there is no upstream commit to link, but its Flathub packaging tracked both steps of the change: [fe13e901](https://github.com/flathub/md.obsidian.Obsidian/commit/fe13e901cbec4b8a58a237e634dd0dee5398774f) (`obsidian` to `md.Obsidian`) and [9faa72b7](https://github.com/flathub/md.obsidian.Obsidian/commit/9faa72b700ae89740a822f480b71915391b02dc4) ("Update StartupWMClass to match changed ID", `md.Obsidian` to `md.obsidian.Obsidian`).

Fix, keeping the anchoring from #1838:

```lua
focus = "^md\\.obsidian\\.Obsidian$"
```

Tested both branches: focuses across workspaces without spawning a second process, and still launches when closed.

Not covered by #4927 and #4928. Matching only `.class` does not help while the pattern cannot match.
