ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Power panel labels a draining battery as charging whenever a charger is plugged inrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

System details

Intel Core i9-8950HK, Intel UHD 630 + AMD Radeon Pro Vega 20 (MacBook Pro 15" 2018, T2), Omarchy 4.0.4-1

What's wrong?

The power panel (shell/plugins/panels/power) derives charge direction from UPower.onBattery — "is a charger plugged in?" — instead of from the battery's own reported state. When a charger is connected but cannot cover the machine's draw (a low-wattage USB-C source, for example), UPower reports on-battery: no while the battery reports state: discharging. The panel then shows:

  • Time to full — but the value comes from omarchy-battery-status, which read UPower's time to empty
  • Charging next to a figure that is actually the discharge rate
  • the charging (bolt) icon set in the bar
  • "Charging" as the hero status fallback

Observed on my machine on a weak charger:

$ upower -d | grep -E "state|time to|energy-rate|on-battery|online"
    state:               discharging
    energy-rate:         10.927 W
    time to empty:       5.2 hours
    online:              yes
  on-battery:      no

$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/ADP1/online /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status
1
Discharging

The panel showed "Time to full 5h 12m" and "Charging 10.9W" while the battery percentage was visibly dropping.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Plug in a charger that supplies less than the machine draws (any state where BAT0/status is Discharging while ADP1/online is 1).
  2. Open the power panel.

Expected

"Time left" / "Discharging" and the regular (non-bolt) battery icon, since the battery is draining. Whether a charger is attached is a separate fact from which way current is flowing.

Where

  • Panel.qml: discharging (line 68) and charging (line 85) are built from UPower.onBattery
  • Model.js: batteryIcon picks the bolt icons on !onBattery (line 77) and modeLabel returns "Charging" for any non-onBattery state that isn't full or threshold-held (lines 87-89)

I have a fix and will open a PR.

### What's wrong?

The power panel (`shell/plugins/panels/power`) derives charge direction from `UPower.onBattery` — "is a charger plugged in?" — instead of from the battery's own reported state. When a charger is connected but cannot cover the machine's draw (a low-wattage USB-C source, for example), UPower reports `on-battery: no` while the battery reports `state: discharging`. The panel then shows:

- **Time to full** — but the value comes from `omarchy-battery-status`, which read UPower's `time to empty`
- **Charging** next to a figure that is actually the discharge rate
- the charging (bolt) icon set in the bar
- "Charging" as the hero status fallback

Observed on my machine on a weak charger:

```
$ upower -d | grep -E "state|time to|energy-rate|on-battery|online"
    state:               discharging
    energy-rate:         10.927 W
    time to empty:       5.2 hours
    online:              yes
  on-battery:      no
$ cat /sys/class/power_supply/ADP1/online /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status
1
Discharging
```

The panel showed "Time to full 5h 12m" and "Charging 10.9W" while the battery percentage was visibly dropping.

**Steps to reproduce**

1. Plug in a charger that supplies less than the machine draws (any state where `BAT0/status` is `Discharging` while `ADP1/online` is `1`).
2. Open the power panel.

**Expected**

"Time left" / "Discharging" and the regular (non-bolt) battery icon, since the battery is draining. Whether a charger is attached is a separate fact from which way current is flowing.

**Where**

- `Panel.qml`: `discharging` (line 68) and `charging` (line 85) are built from `UPower.onBattery`
- `Model.js`: `batteryIcon` picks the bolt icons on `!onBattery` (line 77) and `modeLabel` returns "Charging" for any non-`onBattery` state that isn't full or threshold-held (lines 87-89)

I have a fix and will open a PR.
