Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

System details
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, NVIDIA RTX 4070, Omarchy 4.0.0-1, omarchy-settings 4.0.0-1, voxtype-bin 0.7.5-1
What's wrong?
The Quattro upgrade deliberately removes playerctl, but Omarchy's shipped Voxtype configuration enables a feature that requires it:
[audio]
pause_media = trueThis is reproducible from untouched upstream/package-owned files; it does not depend on local customization:
- Current
quattrodefault enablespause_media: https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/blob/quattro/default/voxtype/config.toml#L28-L29 - The Quattro upgrader explicitly retires
playerctl: https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/blob/quattro/bin/omarchy-upgrade-to-quattro#L791-L865 - Its fallback removal group also pairs
waybar playerctl: https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/blob/quattro/bin/omarchy-upgrade-to-quattro#L877-L903 - Voxtype 0.7.5 describes
--pause-mediaasrequires playerctl.
Steps to reproduce
- Have Voxtype installed/configured through Omarchy with
pause_media = true. - Upgrade a legacy Omarchy installation to Quattro.
- Confirm
playerctlwas removed by the upgrade. - Trigger Voxtype recording.
Voxtype logs:
WARN playerctl not found or failed to run: No such file or directory (os error 2)Media pause/resume during dictation no longer works.
Expected
An Omarchy-owned default should retain its runtime requirement across the Quattro upgrade, or Omarchy should ship a Voxtype version that no longer needs that requirement.
Voxtype already replaced the playerctl subprocess with direct MPRIS D-Bus access in https://github.com/peteonrails/voxtype/pull/487. Until that version is shipped, possible fixes are retaining/installing playerctl when Voxtype is installed, or disabling pause_media by default.
Related but not the same regression: https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/issues/6029 predates Quattro and was closed before playerctl was retired.
