Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Right-click on omarchy.active-window closes the focused window with no warningrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:29 UTC via poll

System details

Omarchy 4.0.0.r1761.g7be59e1-1 (channel: edge). Widget: stock omarchy.active-window on the left of the bar.

What's wrong?

Right-clicking the active-window title in the bar closes that window. There is no context menu, no confirmation, and no tooltip that this will happen. For a single-window app it looks like the process was killed.

Middle-click does the same close. Left-click activates the window.

Why this is unexpected

ActiveWindow.qml wires both buttons to Toplevel.close():

if (mouse.button === Qt.MiddleButton) {
  root.toplevel.close()
} else if (mouse.button === Qt.RightButton) {
  root.toplevel.close()
}

That is a Wayland close request, not kill. The widget's manifest only describes it as "Title of the focused window." The cursor is a pointing hand.

Everywhere else on the bar, right-click is a non-destructive secondary action (clock cycles format, media/audio toggle, tray opens a menu, menu widget opens a terminal). Closing the focused window on right-click is the odd one out, and it is easy to hit while aiming at nearby left-side widgets.

Middle-click-to-close is a known taskbar convention. Right-click-to-close is not.

Expected

  • Right-click should not close the window. Either do nothing, or open a small menu (Close / Focus) so the action is visible.
  • If close stays on a click, it should be middle-click only, and the tooltip should say so.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Add omarchy.active-window to the bar (omarchy bar / shell.json).
  2. Focus any window so its title appears on the left.
  3. Right-click the title in the bar.
  4. The focused window closes.
