ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

RTL8852BE Wi-Fi dead after s2idle; rtw89 resume wedges the chiprevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:29 UTC via poll

System details

ASUS Vivobook S 14 S3407CA, Intel Arrow Lake-H, Realtek RTL8852BE (10ec:b852, AzureWave 1a3b:5471), Omarchy 4.0.0-1, kernel 7.1.8-arch1-3. Suspend type: s2idle.

What's wrong?

Closing the lid suspends normally. Opening it again leaves Wi-Fi gone until a reboot or a full modprobe -r of the rtw89 stack.

omarchy-restart-wifi does not recover it. That command only does rfkill unblock / nmcli radio wifi on / rescan. After this resume the phy is already wedged, so userspace has nothing to talk to.

Repro

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi.
  2. Close the lid (system suspends: PM: suspend entry (s2idle)).
  3. Open the lid and unlock.
  4. Wi-Fi stays down. NetworkManager retries the supplicant five times and gives up.

Kernel on resume

rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: failed to write DBI register, addr=0xB48
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: failed to read PCI cap, ret=134
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: xtal si not ready(W): offset=90 val=10 mask=10
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: mac preinit fail, ret: -110

Then wpa_supplicant: Could not set interface wlp2s0 flags (UP): Connection timed out.

Tried, did not fix

rtw89_pci module options disable_clkreq=y disable_aspm_l1=y disable_aspm_l1ss=y. After reboot the three parameters were Y. Resume still hit DBI / xtal / mac preinit -110.

Works

A systemd-sleep hook gated on PCI 10ec:b852 that unloads the rtw89 stack on pre and modprobe rtw89_8852be on post (cold init, not the broken resume path). After that, the same lid close/open comes back on EarthWifi without a reboot.

This is a kernel/firmware bug. The hook is a hardware quirk until rtw89 can resume this chip.

Related: #5003 (same chip; restarting NetworkManager is a different, insufficient layer).

### System details

ASUS Vivobook S 14 S3407CA, Intel Arrow Lake-H, Realtek RTL8852BE (`10ec:b852`, AzureWave `1a3b:5471`), Omarchy 4.0.0-1, kernel 7.1.8-arch1-3. Suspend type: `s2idle`.

### What's wrong?

Closing the lid suspends normally. Opening it again leaves Wi-Fi gone until a reboot or a full `modprobe -r` of the rtw89 stack.

`omarchy-restart-wifi` does not recover it. That command only does `rfkill unblock` / `nmcli radio wifi on` / rescan. After this resume the phy is already wedged, so userspace has nothing to talk to.

**Repro**

1. Connect to Wi-Fi.
2. Close the lid (system suspends: `PM: suspend entry (s2idle)`).
3. Open the lid and unlock.
4. Wi-Fi stays down. NetworkManager retries the supplicant five times and gives up.

**Kernel on resume**

```
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: failed to write DBI register, addr=0xB48
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: failed to read PCI cap, ret=134
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: mac preinit fail, ret: -110
```

Then wpa_supplicant: `Could not set interface wlp2s0 flags (UP): Connection timed out`.

**Tried, did not fix**

`rtw89_pci` module options `disable_clkreq=y disable_aspm_l1=y disable_aspm_l1ss=y`. After reboot the three parameters were `Y`. Resume still hit DBI / xtal / `mac preinit -110`.

**Works**

A systemd-sleep hook gated on PCI `10ec:b852` that unloads the rtw89 stack on `pre` and `modprobe rtw89_8852be` on `post` (cold init, not the broken resume path). After that, the same lid close/open comes back on EarthWifi without a reboot.

This is a kernel/firmware bug. The hook is a hardware quirk until rtw89 can resume this chip.
