Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

What's wrong?
On a fresh Omarchy 3.8.2 install on this Arrow Lake laptop there is no audio at all — PipeWire only exposes a "Dummy Output" sink. The SOF audio DSP fails to boot because sof-firmware is not installed.
Root cause
install/config/hardware/intel/sof-firmware.sh only installs sof-firmware on Panther Lake:
if omarchy-hw-intel-ptl && ! omarchy-hw-match "XPS"; then
omarchy-pkg-add sof-firmware
fiand omarchy-hw-intel-ptl matches a single family:
lspci | grep -iE 'vga|3d|display' | grep -qi 'panther lake'Arrow Lake (and presumably Lunar Lake / Meteor Lake) don't match, so sof-firmware is never installed. On the mainline linux kernel sof-firmware is only an optdep (the script's own comment notes linux-ptl previously hard-depped it), so nothing else pulls it in. Result: any non-Panther-Lake Intel SOF laptop on mainline linux boots with no audio.

sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: Check if you have 'sof-firmware' package installed.
sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: error: sof_probe_work failed err: -2Steps to reproduce
- Install Omarchy 3.8.2 on an Intel Arrow Lake laptop (e.g. Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14IAH10) running mainline
linux. - Check audio:
wpctl statusshows only "Dummy Output";cat /proc/asound/cardsshows--- no soundcards ---. dmesg | grep sofshows thesof_probe_work failed err: -2error above.
Fix (confirmed working)
sudo pacman -S sof-firmware
sudo modprobe -r snd_sof_pci_intel_mtl && sudo modprobe snd_sof_pci_intel_mtlAfter this, /proc/asound/cards shows sof-hda-dsp and PipeWire exposes a real Arrow Lake cAVS Speaker sink.
Suggested change
The DSP-detection guard is too narrow. Options, most robust first:
- Detect the SOF/cAVS DSP directly instead of by GPU codename — install
sof-firmwarewhenever the00:1f.3audio controller binds to asof-audio-pci-*driver / reports ascAVS. Future-proof across generations. - Extend matching to also cover
arrow lake, lunar lake, andmeteor lake. - Simplest: add
sof-firmwareto the base Intel package set unconditionally (~43 MB; the failure mode of omitting it is total loss of audio).

On a fresh Omarchy 3.8.2 install on this Arrow Lake laptop there is **no audio at all** — PipeWire only exposes a "Dummy Output" sink. The SOF audio DSP fails to boot because `sof-firmware` is not installed. ### Root cause `install/config/hardware/intel/sof-firmware.sh` only installs `sof-firmware` on Panther Lake: ```bash if omarchy-hw-intel-ptl && ! omarchy-hw-match "XPS"; then omarchy-pkg-add sof-firmware fi ``` and `omarchy-hw-intel-ptl` matches a single family: ```bash lspci | grep -iE 'vga|3d|display' | grep -qi 'panther lake' ``` Arrow Lake (and presumably Lunar Lake / Meteor Lake) don't match, so `sof-firmware` is never installed. On the mainline `linux` kernel `sof-firmware` is only an *optdep* (the script's own comment notes `linux-ptl` previously hard-depped it), so nothing else pulls it in. Result: any non-Panther-Lake Intel SOF laptop on mainline `linux` boots with no audio. ### Kernel log ``` sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: SOF firmware and/or topology file not found. sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: Firmware file: intel/sof-ipc4/arl/sof-arl.ri sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: Topology file: intel/sof-ipc4-tplg/sof-hda-generic-4ch.tplg sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: Check if you have 'sof-firmware' package installed. sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl 0000:00:1f.3: error: sof_probe_work failed err: -2 ``` ### Steps to reproduce 1. Install Omarchy 3.8.2 on an Intel Arrow Lake laptop (e.g. Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 14IAH10) running mainline `linux`. 2. Check audio: `wpctl status` shows only "Dummy Output"; `cat /proc/asound/cards` shows `--- no soundcards ---`. 3. `dmesg | grep sof` shows the `sof_probe_work failed err: -2` error above. ### Fix (confirmed working) ```bash sudo pacman -S sof-firmware sudo modprobe -r snd_sof_pci_intel_mtl && sudo modprobe snd_sof_pci_intel_mtl ``` After this, `/proc/asound/cards` shows `sof-hda-dsp` and PipeWire exposes a real `Arrow Lake cAVS Speaker` sink. ### Suggested change The DSP-detection guard is too narrow. Options, most robust first: 1. **Detect the SOF/cAVS DSP directly** instead of by GPU codename — install `sof-firmware` whenever the `00:1f.3` audio controller binds to a `sof-audio-pci-*` driver / reports as `cAVS`. Future-proof across generations. 2. Extend matching to also cover `arrow lake`, `lunar lake`, and `meteor lake`. 3. Simplest: add `sof-firmware` to the base Intel package set unconditionally (~43 MB; the failure mode of omitting it is total loss of audio).
