System still running after shutdown

What's wrong?
It happened to me now many times.
For some reason my system does not turn off completely. It goes black and stops reacting but the next time I would like to turn it on again the battery is empty or almost empty.
Interestingly the energy consumption seems higher than keeping the system in sleep mode.
I checked the Issues on GitHub to see if there is a solution for it. The only thing I found was someone that observed that his system does not turn off properly if the lid is shut immediately. In my case I payed attention not to do so and even gave the laptop some extra time. I sometimes removed the keybord/ lid (surface go thing) to see if that could cause the problems during shutdown but it did not make any change.
FyI: I dont know much about programming. I heard about this distro and really like the (for me) minimalist approach, how to navigate and how well it runs on this old garbage that I now use most of the times. I really hope that this issue could be addressed some day.
I recently saw an issue regarding sth with dirty shutdown? Maybe this problem could be related to that.
