What's wrong?
Summary
On Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 (Panther Lake, IPU7-PTL with OmniVision OV08X40 sensor) running Omarchy, the integrated camera is invisible to Linux. ACPI _STA returns 0 for all camera-related devices, so the sensor never binds, the media graph has no sensor entity, and /dev/video50 only produces black NV12 frames.
The Gen 13 (Lunar Lake / IPU7-LNL) on the same Omarchy installation works correctly. Suggesting Omarchy's Panther Lake camera path (install/config/hardware/intel/ptl-kernel.sh and friends) is only validated for Dell XPS today and doesn't ship what Lenovo PTL needs.
Hardware / system

What I've tried
- BIOS
Security → I/O Port Access → Integrated CameraisEnabled. No nightlight/privacy option blocks it. Physical camera shutter is open. - Switched from mainline
linuxtolinux-ptl— identical symptoms. - Ran the post-suspend reset sequence from Omarchy's
camera-sleep-hook(rmmod ov08x40 intel_ipu7_isys; modprobe ...; systemctl restart v4l2-relayd@ipu7) — no change. - Reboot — no change.
- Omarchy's
install/config/hardware/intel/ipu7-camera.shdoes matchOVTI08F4and installsintel-ipu7-camera, but that package alone is not sufficient on Panther Lake.
Root cause hypothesis
Panther Lake IPU7 cameras need an intel_cvs (Camera Vision Sensor) driver from `intel/vision-drivers` to satisfy the ACPI dependency chain for OVTI08F4 and the corresponding INT3472 power controllers. Mainline kernel ships an intel_cvs module, but it does not bind these Panther Lake ACPI nodes — the upstream driver is incomplete for PTL.

- intel/vision-drivers#36 — intel_cvs: Critical for IPU7 camera on Panther Lake — should be upstreamed to mainline
- CachyOS/linux-cachyos#804 — Guide: Getting Intel IPU7 camera working on Panther Lake (Dell XPS) — confirms intel_cvs.ko from intel/vision-drivers is the critical blocker for Panther Lake camera, plus a modprobe softdep order to load usbio / gpio_usbio / i2c_usbio / intel_cvs / intel_skl_int3472_discrete before intel_ipu7.
Suggested fix
- Confirm whether the Dell XPS PTL camera path actually works today on
linux-ptlalone, or whether it also depends on something not shipped (the hardware overlap with this Lenovo case is high — same IPU, sameOVTI08F4HID). - If
intel_cvsis the missing piece, ship it as a DKMS package and extend the install path beyond justomarchy-hw-match "XPS"(e.g. trigger onOVTI08F4HID + Panther Lake + status=0, or add explicit Lenovo Gen 14 detection). - Add the modprobe softdep order from the CachyOS guide.
Happy to test patches on this hardware and help out to make sure Omarchy works on this laptop!

### What's wrong?
## Summary
On Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 (Panther Lake, IPU7-PTL with OmniVision OV08X40 sensor) running Omarchy, the integrated camera is invisible to Linux. ACPI `_STA` returns 0 for all camera-related devices, so the sensor never binds, the media graph has no sensor entity, and `/dev/video50` only produces black NV12 frames.

## Hardware / system
- Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 (`21V7CTO1WW`)
- CPU: Intel Core Ultra X7 368H (Panther Lake)
- IPU: IPU7-PTL (`PCI 8086:b05d`), config dir `/etc/camera/ipu75xa/`
- Sensor: OmniVision OV08X40 (ACPI `OVTI08F4`)
- BIOS: `N4OET47W 1.10` (2026-03-30) — latest available per Omarchy firmware update
- Omarchy: 3.8.2
- Kernel: tested on both `linux 7.0.9-arch2-1` (mainline) and `linux-ptl 7.0.9-arch1-1-ptl` — same symptoms
- `intel-ipu7-camera 1.0.3-4` installed (Omarchy's IPU7 install path triggered correctly)
## Symptoms
```
$ cat /sys/bus/acpi/devices/OVTI08F4:00/status
0
$ for d in /sys/bus/acpi/devices/{OVTI*,INT3472:*}; do
echo "$(basename $d) status=$(cat $d/status 2>/dev/null)"
bind module uevent unbind # no device bound
$ media-ctl -d /dev/media0 -p | grep -i ov08x40
# no match — sensor not in graph
```
`[email protected]` runs but the GStreamer pipeline fails:
```
v4l2-relayd: g_param_spec_enum: assertion 'g_enum_get_value (enum_class, default_value) != NULL' failed
v4l2-relayd: gst_element_set_state: assertion 'GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed
# Triggered by icamerasrc:
CamHAL[INF] CameraParserInvoker: getAvailableSensors, Found IPU: IPU7
CamHAL[WAR] CameraParserInvoker: parseSensors: No sensors available
```
`/dev/video50` is readable but only delivers solid-black NV12 frames (Y=16, UV=128).
## What I've tried
- BIOS `Security → I/O Port Access → Integrated Camera` is `Enabled`. No nightlight/privacy option blocks it. Physical camera shutter is open.
- Switched from mainline `linux` to `linux-ptl` — identical symptoms.
- Ran the post-suspend reset sequence from Omarchy's `camera-sleep-hook` (`rmmod ov08x40 intel_ipu7_isys; modprobe ...; systemctl restart v4l2-relayd@ipu7`) — no change.
- Reboot — no change.
- Omarchy's `install/config/hardware/intel/ipu7-camera.sh` does match `OVTI08F4` and installs `intel-ipu7-camera`, but that package alone is not sufficient on Panther Lake.
## Root cause hypothesis
Panther Lake IPU7 cameras need an `intel_cvs` (Camera Vision Sensor) driver from [`intel/vision-drivers`](https://github.com/intel/vision-drivers) to satisfy the ACPI dependency chain for `OVTI08F4` and the corresponding `INT3472` power controllers. Mainline kernel ships an `intel_cvs` module, but it does **not** bind these Panther Lake ACPI nodes — the upstream driver is incomplete for PTL.

## Suggested fix
1. Confirm whether the Dell XPS PTL camera path actually works today on `linux-ptl` alone, or whether it also depends on something not shipped (the hardware overlap with this Lenovo case is high — same IPU, same `OVTI08F4` HID).
2. If `intel_cvs` is the missing piece, ship it as a DKMS package and extend the install path beyond just `omarchy-hw-match "XPS"` (e.g. trigger on `OVTI08F4` HID + Panther Lake + status=0, or add explicit Lenovo Gen 14 detection).
3. Add the modprobe softdep order from the CachyOS guide.
