Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

System details

Omarchy 3.1.1

What's wrong?

I have two machines with the exact same setup, Omarchy 3.1.1
One of them is a Desktop, the other a Laptop.

On the Laptop machine Nautilus runs fine, on the desktop, for some reason, Nautilus takes about 25s to start.
After much investigation and feeding strace files to Grok, I found the differences causing this delay:

➜ busctl --user list | grep -E "Nautilus|portal|FileManager"
org.freedesktop.FileManager1                         - -               -      (activatable) -                 -       -

org.gnome.Nautilus                                   - -               -      (activatable) -                 -       -
org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer                          - -               -      (activatable) -                 -       -

On the machine where Nautilus runs fast, the last two entries of org.gnome activatable services do not exist.
I masked these entries in .config/dbus-1/session.d/nautilus-mask.conf:

<!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"
 "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/dbus/1.0/busconfig.dtd">
<busconfig>
  <policy context="default">
    <deny own="org.gnome.Nautilus"/>
    <deny own="org.gnome.NautilusPreviewer"/>
  </policy>
</busconfig>

And now Nautilus runs fast again!

But.. why are these entries present in this machine and not the other, considering same OS, both updated to lastest version of Omarchy consistently?
