Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

System details

MacBook Pro 2012, hybrid GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (Kepler), Omarchy 2.0

What's wrong?

Installing Omarchy on a MacBook Pro A1286, 15" mid-2012, with hybrid GPU:

  • Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (Kepler)

After login, the screen stays black (Ctrl+Alt+F2 works). journalctl --reverse shows:

NVRM: The NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GPU installed in this system is
NVRM: supported through the NVIDIA 470.xx Legacy drivers.
NVRM: The 580.82.09 NVIDIA driver will ignore this GPU.

Booting with nomodeset via Limine allowed the system to start, but performance was poor and games failed.

I tried installing the 470.xx driver following the Arch NVIDIA guide.

After that, not even nomodeset worked, the screen showed glitches (example), and input was lost.

Arch Wiki and NVIDIA documentation note that legacy Kepler drivers may fail on kernels ≥ 5.18 on Intel CPUs. They suggest using switching to nouveau.

I switched to nouveau: video works and RetroArch runs, but journalctl still shows “driver incompatible”.

Question: Is it possible to downgrade the kernel to a version compatible with NVIDIA legacy drivers?
