Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Super+Space Apps shows two Hermes entries after CLI desktop-id renamerevision 1 · captured 2026-09-30 10:51 UTC via poll

System details

Intel i7-5820K, NVIDIA RTX 3070, Omarchy 4.0.4-1, hermes-desktop 2026.8.31-3, kernel 7.2.5-3-omarchy

What's wrong?

Super+Space → Apps shows two identical "Hermes" entries.

Omarchy already hides the CLI-generated Hermes launcher, but default/omarchy/launcher.hides still uses the old desktop id (hermes). Hermes renamed the visible user entry to com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop, so the hide list no longer matches and both launchers appear.

Expected: one Hermes in Apps — the packaged hermes-desktop launcher.

Actual: two rows, both Name=Hermes:

  1. hermes-desktop from /usr/share/applications/hermes-desktop.desktop (Exec=hermes-desktop %U) — keep this
  2. com.nousresearch.hermes from ~/.local/share/applications/com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop (Exec=…/hermes desktop --skip-build) — this is the one launcher.hides was meant to suppress

A third file, ~/.local/share/applications/hermes.desktop, is a NoDisplay=true legacy alias and is already hidden.

AppLibrary filters by desktop id (shell/services/AppLibrary.qml reads $OMARCHY_PATH/default/omarchy/launcher.hides). Current master still only lists hermes:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/basecamp/omarchy/master/default/omarchy/launcher.hides

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install hermes-desktop (Omarchy AI → Hermes Desktop).
  2. Launch Hermes at least once via hermes desktop (or any path that runs install_desktop_entry()).
  3. Open Super+Space → Apps and search "Hermes".

Proposed fix: keep hermes (legacy alias / old pins) and add the renamed id. Do not hide hermes-desktop.

hermes
com.nousresearch.hermes

Hiding via NoDisplay=true on the user file is not a durable distro fix: hermes desktop rewrites that entry on launch unless the user sets desktop.manage_launcher_entry: false. The hide list is the right Omarchy-side filter.

Local workaround used here: NoDisplay=true on com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop plus hermes config set desktop.manage_launcher_entry false.

### System details

### What's wrong?

Super+Space → Apps shows two identical "Hermes" entries.

Omarchy already hides the CLI-generated Hermes launcher, but `default/omarchy/launcher.hides` still uses the old desktop id (`hermes`). Hermes renamed the visible user entry to `com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop`, so the hide list no longer matches and both launchers appear.

Expected: one Hermes in Apps — the packaged `hermes-desktop` launcher.

Actual: two rows, both `Name=Hermes`:

1. `hermes-desktop` from `/usr/share/applications/hermes-desktop.desktop` (`Exec=hermes-desktop %U`) — keep this
2. `com.nousresearch.hermes` from `~/.local/share/applications/com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop` (`Exec=…/hermes desktop --skip-build`) — this is the one `launcher.hides` was meant to suppress

A third file, `~/.local/share/applications/hermes.desktop`, is a `NoDisplay=true` legacy alias and is already hidden.

AppLibrary filters by desktop id (`shell/services/AppLibrary.qml` reads `$OMARCHY_PATH/default/omarchy/launcher.hides`). Current master still only lists `hermes`:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/basecamp/omarchy/master/default/omarchy/launcher.hides

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install `hermes-desktop` (Omarchy AI → Hermes Desktop).
2. Launch Hermes at least once via `hermes desktop` (or any path that runs `install_desktop_entry()`).
3. Open Super+Space → Apps and search "Hermes".

Proposed fix: keep `hermes` (legacy alias / old pins) and add the renamed id. Do not hide `hermes-desktop`.

```
hermes
com.nousresearch.hermes
```

Hiding via `NoDisplay=true` on the user file is not a durable distro fix: `hermes desktop` rewrites that entry on launch unless the user sets `desktop.manage_launcher_entry: false`. The hide list is the right Omarchy-side filter.

Local workaround used here: `NoDisplay=true` on `com.nousresearch.hermes.desktop` plus `hermes config set desktop.manage_launcher_entry false`.
