Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

omarchy-install-service-sunshine double-registers autostart, causing a segfault on every loginrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-02 12:06 UTC via poll

What happened

Sunshine segfaults on login, every time, right after omarchy-install-service-sunshine installs it. coredumpctl list shows a crash-loop the day of install (2026-09-17, SIGABRT x10 in two bursts), and a SIGSEGV again this morning on a fresh boot, ~2 seconds after launch.

Root cause

omarchy-install-service-sunshine registers Sunshine's autostart through two independent, uncoordinated mechanisms:

  1. systemctl --user enable --now sunshine enables app-dev.lizardbyte.app.Sunshine.service (aliased sunshine.service), which is WantedBy=graphical-session.target — it autostarts on every login on its own, with ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 5.
  2. enable_hyprland_autostart() in the same script appends o.launch_on_start("sunshine") to ~/.config/hypr/autostart.lua, which launches /usr/bin/sunshine directly on every Hyprland start, with no delay.

Both fire on every login, so two Sunshine processes start concurrently and race for the same VAAPI/encoder session, the admin UI port (47990), and the avahi service name "omarchy". One of them dereferences something the other has already claimed and segfaults.

This morning's timeline confirms it:
- PID 1523, the Hyprland-launched (undelayed) copy, started 07:58:56 and segfaulted at 07:58:58.
- PID 2803, the systemd-managed copy (held back 5s by ExecStartPre=sleep 5), started cleanly at 07:59:01 and has run fine since.

Expected behavior

Sunshine should autostart once per login, not twice.

Suggested fix

Pick one autostart mechanism in omarchy-install-service-sunshine, not both — e.g. drop the enable_hyprland_autostart step, since systemctl --user enable --now sunshine already autostarts it via graphical-session.target.

System

  • omarchy version: 4.0.4-1
  • sunshine package: 2026.516.143833-4.1
  • No omarchy debug command exists in this version to attach further diagnostics.

### What happened

Sunshine segfaults on login, every time, right after `omarchy-install-service-sunshine` installs it. `coredumpctl list` shows a crash-loop the day of install (2026-09-17, SIGABRT x10 in two bursts), and a SIGSEGV again this morning on a fresh boot, ~2 seconds after launch.

### Root cause

`omarchy-install-service-sunshine` registers Sunshine's autostart through two independent, uncoordinated mechanisms:

1. `systemctl --user enable --now sunshine` enables `app-dev.lizardbyte.app.Sunshine.service` (aliased `sunshine.service`), which is `WantedBy=graphical-session.target` — it autostarts on every login on its own, with `ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 5`.
2. `enable_hyprland_autostart()` in the same script appends `o.launch_on_start("sunshine")` to `~/.config/hypr/autostart.lua`, which launches `/usr/bin/sunshine` directly on every Hyprland start, with no delay.

Both fire on every login, so two Sunshine processes start concurrently and race for the same VAAPI/encoder session, the admin UI port (47990), and the avahi service name "omarchy". One of them dereferences something the other has already claimed and segfaults.

- PID 2803, the systemd-managed copy (held back 5s by `ExecStartPre=sleep 5`), started cleanly at 07:59:01 and has run fine since.

### Expected behavior

Sunshine should autostart once per login, not twice.

Pick one autostart mechanism in `omarchy-install-service-sunshine`, not both — e.g. drop the `enable_hyprland_autostart` step, since `systemctl --user enable --now sunshine` already autostarts it via `graphical-session.target`.

### System

- `omarchy version`: 4.0.4-1
- sunshine package: 2026.516.143833-4.1
- No `omarchy debug` command exists in this version to attach further diagnostics.
