ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Reminder overlay elides long messages while typing (text is still saved in full)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

System details

n2585 (Arch Linux), Omarchy 4.0.4-1, Quickshell. shell/plugins/reminders/ReminderFlow.qml is byte-identical to upstream quattro.

What's wrong?

In the reminder dialog (omarchy reminder -i, or Super+Ctrl+R) the message shown while typing is cut off once it gets longer than the card. Past roughly the card width you only see the beginning plus "…", so you cannot read the message you are about to submit.

Typed: Dies ist ein sehr langer Reminder-Text der ueber die Kartenbreite hinausgeht und komplett sichtbar sein sollte

  • Reminder overlay showed: Dies ist ein sehr langer R… (see attached before-truncated.png)
  • The confirmation toast in the top-right showed the full text, so nothing is lost — the reminder is saved and fires in full; only the typing display is truncated.

Steps to recreate

  1. omarchy reminder -i
  2. enter minutes, press Enter
  3. type a message longer than the card width
  4. compare the overlay against the top-right confirmation toast (or with omarchy reminder show)

Cause

shell/plugins/reminders/ReminderFlow.qml: keystrokes are not a real text input — they are accumulated via keyCatcher Keys.onPressed into root.filterText and rendered as a single-line `Text`:

Text {
  ...
  elide: Text.ElideRight   // no wrapMode
}

inside a card whose cardHeight is fixed to about one line (contentMargin * 2 + headerHeight). Long messages therefore elide; the backend stores and toasts the full string, so this is a display-only bug.

Fix direction (your call)

  • smallest: elide: Text.ElideLeft — keeps the card one line, shows the tail while typing
  • larger: wrapMode: Text.Wrap (drop elide), let the card grow with the text height up to the screen, and keep the tail visible on overflow
  • alternative/longer term: a real TextEdit (cf. #12338, which does this for the menu search line)

Happy to send a PR for whichever direction you prefer.

Related but different: #12338 (menu search as a real text input), #8176 (numpad keys in the menu/reminder catcher).

Typed: `Dies ist ein sehr langer Reminder-Text der ueber die Kartenbreite hinausgeht und komplett sichtbar sein sollte`

### Cause

`shell/plugins/reminders/ReminderFlow.qml`: keystrokes are not a real text input — they are accumulated via `keyCatcher` `Keys.onPressed` into `root.filterText` and rendered as a **single-line `Text`**:

```qml
- larger: `wrapMode: Text.Wrap` (drop `elide`), let the card grow with the text height up to the screen, and keep the tail visible on overflow
- alternative/longer term: a real `TextEdit` (cf. #12338, which does this for the menu search line)
