What's wrong?
Problem
omarchy display text size makes the Ghostty font too large.
At a text size of 16, the Ghostty text is approximately 1.33 times larger than the Foot text.
Cause
The command changes two settings:
- It sets the GTK
text-scaling-factor(16 px gives 1.3636). - It writes a larger point size to each terminal configuration (16 px gives 12 pt).
Foot, Alacritty and Kitty do not use the GTK factor.
Thus, step 2 is necessary for these terminals.
Ghostty uses GTK.
Ghostty applies the GTK factor to its font-size value.
The Ghostty documentation for font-size shows this.
Thus, Ghostty gets the two scale operations: 9 pt to 12 pt, and then 12 pt × 1.3636.
Measurement
I used the XTWINOPS query CSI 16 t to get the cell size in pixels.
The monitor scale is 1.
The font is JetBrainsMono Nerd Font.
| GTK factor | Foot 12 pt | Ghostty 12 pt | Ghostty 9 pt |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0 | 22 × 10 | 21 × 10 | — |
| 1.3636 | 22 × 10 | 29 × 13 | 21 × 10 |
When the factor is 1.0, the two terminals have the same cell size.
When the factor is 1.3636, the Foot cell size does not change.
The Ghostty cell size increases by the factor.
Ghostty at 9 pt has the same cell size as Foot at 12 pt.
Procedure to show the problem
- Install Foot and Ghostty.
- Run
omarchy display text size 16. - Open a Foot window and a Ghostty window.
- Compare the text size in the two windows.
Result: The Ghostty text is larger than the Foot text.
Expected result: The text in the two windows is the same size.
Possible correction
In bin/omarchy-display-text-size, set_terminal_size writes the scaled point size to Ghostty (line 154).
Do not write the scaled size to Ghostty.
Keep the Ghostty font-size at the default value (9).
The GTK factor then gives the correct size.
Note: term_current_pt reads the Ghostty value first (line 182).
After the correction, this function shows 9 for all text sizes.
Thus, this function must also get a change.
