A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Universal clipboard shortcuts conflict with native Super+C/V bindings in Emacsrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Summary

Omarchy's universal Super+C / Super+V shortcuts intercept these keys before applications receive them, then inject Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V (or terminal equivalents). This conflicts with applications that use Super-key shortcuts natively. In particular, Emacs/Doom binds Super+C to evil-yank and Super+V to yank, but those bindings are unreachable while Omarchy's universal shortcuts are active.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Run Emacs as a GUI application under Omarchy/Hyprland.
  2. Check its keybindings: Super+C is bound to evil-yank and Super+V to yank.
  3. Press Super+C or Super+V while Emacs is focused.

The active window class is emacs. Omarchy's universal clipboard binding handles the physical Super chord and sends Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V to the focused app, so Emacs never receives Super+C/Super+V.

Remapping Emacs to use Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V is not a reasonable workaround: Ctrl+C is a core prefix for Emacs and Doom commands, and Ctrl+V is the standard page-down command. Reassigning them would disrupt established editing workflows just to accommodate the compositor-level interception.

Expected behavior

Applications should be able to receive their native Super+C/V bindings, while Omarchy's universal clipboard behavior remains available in other applications.

Suggested improvement

Consider a configurable, per-window exception/pass-through mechanism for universal clipboard shortcuts (for example, forwarding Super+C/V to Emacs when its window is focused), or document a supported way to define such exceptions in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua. Hyprland supports sending shortcuts to the focused or a selected window, so an app-aware path appears feasible.

Environment

  • Omarchy: 4.0.4-1
  • Hyprland: 0.56.2
  • Emacs: 31.1 Pgtk GUI, Doom Emacs
