Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

omarchy-launch-browser/webapp breaks if no desktop file is foundrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:27 UTC via poll

These are hardcoded to look at:

  • ~/.local/share/applications
  • /usr/share/applications

If they fail to find a corresponding desktop file in these locations, the sed to grab the binary location will break and you end up with error messages like this:

omarchy-launch-webapp "https://chatgpt.com"
Path "--app=“https:/chatgpt.com”" does not exist! (the missing \ is not a typo)

#1076 fixes this for nix packages installed via home-manager on arch + omarchy, but there could be other edge cases such as flatpak, etc.
To handle these edge cases, we should probably utilize XDG_DATA_DIRS rather than a static list of locations where desktop files could exist.
