Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

ISO not recognized as bootable media on 2012 iMacrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:35 UTC via poll

System details

2012 iMac - 3.1Ghz i7 - 16GB

What's wrong?

I’ve tried installing Omarchy 2 on an iMac (21.5-inch, late 2012). Unfortunately, the omarchy-online.iso is not recognized as bootable media by the Mac’s Startup Manager.

For comparison, a standard Arch Linux ISO written to USB with the same method is detected and boots without issue. This suggests the Omarchy image may not include the expected EFI fallback (e.g. /EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI) or has a layout that Apple’s firmware does not recognize.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Download the latest Omarchy 2 ISO release.
  2. Flash to USB using balenaEtcher.
  3. Reboot the iMac and hold the Option (Alt) key.
  4. Observe that no bootable “EFI Boot” entry appears.

Expected result:

The Omarchy USB stick should appear as a boot option (like the stock Arch ISO does) and boot into the installer.

Actual result:

The iMac skips the Omarchy stick entirely and boots the internal disk.

Notes:

  • Machine: iMac 21.5”, late 2012 (Intel)
  • Stock Arch ISO works fine with the same procedure.
  • Seems specific to how the Omarchy ISO is structured for EFI.

Could you confirm whether the Omarchy ISO includes a proper EFI fallback (/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI)?
