Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

unusably slow in QEMUrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:35 UTC via poll

System details

Macbook Pro (M1 Pro), 32GB RAM

What's wrong?

Since there is no ARM version yet and I wanted to give Omarchy a try I installed it on UTM (QEMU) in emulation.
Standard settings, 4GB RAM, 10GB of disk.

This is expected to be slower - but it's completely unusable. Way slower than any other distro I have ever run before. Linux on a RPi zero feels snappier. The lag of the UI is so bad that I had to switch to the console with ctrl-alt-f3 to see what is going on.

I would have expected some higher CPU usage - so I am not quite sure what is going on.

The boot itself is not so bad. The last quarter of the progress bar it starts to become slower.
But on hyperland even the mouse pointer is laggy.

Not sure what is going on. I would have expected it to at least not be worse than other distros.
Just wanted to leave this here as datapoint.

Otherwise quite impressive visually.
Looking forward to try an ARM version.
