Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

What happened

On linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3 this machine periodically becomes completely unusable: no keyboard, no touchpad, no mouse, nothing reacts, and only a forced power-off recovers. The kernel log shows the ACPI-EC global lock getting stuck behind a timed-out USB4/Type-C transaction. Every occurrence is on 7.2.5-3-omarchy; the stock Arch kernel on the same machine has never done it.

linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3 was installed 2026-09-16 20:38 by the 4.0.4 upgrade; the first boot on it (20:43) is the first boot in the journal with any Thunderbolt failure, and both forced reboots are on it.

Why there is no way out of it

The internal keyboard is AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0 (i8042, EC-emulated on Lenovo) and the touchpad is ACPI i2c-HID (i2c-SYNA2BA6:00). Both are serviced through the same ACPI/EC path that wedges, so keyboard and touchpad die together — and SysRq goes through the same path, so REISUB is unavailable too. With systemd PID 1 itself blocked, nothing in the session can recover.

Suspected trigger

An external SanDisk Extreme 55DD SSD (10 Gbps UAS, NTFS via ntfs3, mounted from fstab) sits on the same USB4 host — bus 2 = 0000:00:0d.0, while the failing controller is 0000:00:0d.2 — and holds the sample libraries used in those sessions. The drive itself is healthy: zero uas/SCSI/I/O error/reset messages in the entire journal. In the 09-19 event the failing runtime resume was provoked by nvidia-modprobe reading PCI config space; note nvidia-utils is installed here (as a dependency of hyprland/steam/umu-launcher) even though this machine has no NVIDIA GPU. Runtime PM of the NHI is power/control=auto with autosuspend_delay_ms=15000, i.e. the failing path is a runtime resume out of D3.
