Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Infinite Flickering and Multiple Instances of omarchy-menu/App Launcher When Using SUPER+Space Shortcut After Updaterevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:42 UTC via poll

Description:

After updating Omarchy today (10/21/2025), both application launcher shortcuts are experiencing critical issues.

Environment:

  • Omarchy Version: Omarchy v3.0.0-2
  • Walker Package Version: walker-bin 2.5.6-1

Problem 1: SUPER+Space Shortcut

When using the SUPER+Space shortcut to open the application menu:
1. The menu opens but starts infinitely flickering.
2. Each subsequent press of SUPER+Space opens a new instance of the menu instead of toggling the existing one.
3. This leads to multiple overlapping menus, increased flickering, and high CPU/resource usage.

Problem 2: SUPER+ALT+Space Shortcut

When using the SUPER+ALT+Space shortcut:
- The menu opens as a completely translucent box with a text string in the center displaying: "waiting for elephnnt"
- The menu remains non-functional in this state

Workaround:

The menu functions correctly when launched by clicking its icon in the top-left corner of the screen. The issues are specific to the keyboard shortcuts.

Investigation & Troubleshooting:

Based on community discussion (Discord), these problems appear to be related to the walker package. The new walker version 3.x is reportedly incompatible. In my case, I have walker-bin 2.5.6-1 installed.
I have already tried the suggested commands omarchy-update and omarchy-restart-walker, but neither resolved the issues.

Potential Root Cause:

There might be two contributing factors:
1. Walker Incompatibility: As indicated, an incompatibility with the newer walker 3.x series.
2. Omarchy Version: These issues might also be related to using an Omarchy version (v3.0.0-2) that is potentially older than v3.1, which may contain necessary fixes for the new walker behavior.
3. Elephnnt Dependency: The "waiting for elephnnt" error suggests a missing or broken dependency or service.

Request:

Please investigate these regressions and provide a fix or guidance for resolution. The application launcher is a critical component of the desktop environment. Thank you.
