ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

MOMENTUM 4 stereo silence after sleep: reset and re-pair restored AAC playbackrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Summary

MOMENTUM 4 stereo Bluetooth playback became silent on an Omarchy system, reportedly after headset sleep/auto-off. Firefox and a direct system test were inaudible despite an active, unmuted output. Hands-free playback worked. A headset hardware reset followed by replacing its pairing restored audibly verified AAC stereo and Firefox playback.

Correction: Earlier descriptions/comments overstated the diagnosis. A stale codec endpoint, EasyEffects crash loop, and a permanent SBC fix were not established. The underlying cause remains unresolved.

Environment

  • Omarchy on ASUS ExpertBook B9406CAA, Intel Bluetooth controller
  • Linux 7.2.3-arch1-3
  • PipeWire 1.6.8-1, WirePlumber 0.5.17-1, BlueZ 5.87-2
  • Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4, Firefox

Confirmed observations

  • Direct spoken test audio was inaudible using both SBC and AAC A2DP. Internal headset audio and a hands-free test were audible.
  • A known test produced nonzero samples at the stereo sink monitor. A short Bluetooth trace showed outgoing ACL packets and completed-packet events, with packet sizes changing during the test. This does not prove correct delivery/decoding at the headset.
  • Reconnects, service/browser restarts and a global SBC-only restriction did not reliably resolve the silence. That restriction has been withdrawn.
  • BlueZ logged Unable to load LastUsed: rseid 4 not found, later lseid 11 not found, and connection-reset messages. These are observations, not an established root cause.
  • An EasyEffects crash/restart was observed during troubleshooting, but its causal involvement and a persistent crash loop were not established.

Recovery confirmed by the user

  1. Perform the manufacturer's hardware reset by holding the multifunction button for about 20 seconds until the confirmation sound: Sennheiser instructions.
  2. A subsequent connection failed with org.bluez.Error.Failed br-connection-key-missing.
  3. Put the headphones into pairing mode, remove only their obsolete computer-side pairing, then pair, trust and connect again.
  4. Select the available AAC A2DP profile and make the resulting sink the default output, unmuted at moderate volume.
  5. The user heard the direct spoken test in AAC stereo and then confirmed normal Firefox playback.

Status and limits

This is one verified recovery, not a confirmed permanent fix. A subsequent sleep/auto-off cycle has not been tested. It is not yet established whether the original fault belongs to the headset, Bluetooth controller, BlueZ, PipeWire/WirePlumber, or Omarchy configuration. The post-reset missing-key connection failure is distinct from the original stereo silence. Keeping this as a troubleshooting report pending reproducible evidence.
