Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Problem Description
The elephant process consumes 524,147 inotify watches out of the system limit of 524,288 (99.97%), preventing any other application from creating file watchers.
Impact
- Node.js, npm, pnpm, Vite fail with ENOSPC errors
Diagnostic Output :
# Elephant consuming nearly all watches
sudo sh -c 'for pid in /proc/[0-9]*; do
count=$(cat $pid/fdinfo/* 2>/dev/null | grep -c "^inotify wd:")
if [ "$count" -gt 100 ]; then
comm=$(cat $pid/comm 2>/dev/null)
echo "$count watches - $comm (PID $(basename $pid))"
fi
done' | sort -rn | head -5
524131 watches - elephant (PID 2671)
117 watches - systemd (PID 1)- Walker does NOT display files in search results despite elephant indexing 524k+ files
- Killing elephant immediately resolves the issue
- Problem persists even with latest version (2.16.1-1)
I even tryied to disable through the recommended command :elephant service disable. And yet the service keep restarting at reboot.
Well i though the need was only to watch the apps. But watching all files might be a bit too much. Not sure why it is happening though.
If anyone have the same issue let me know. Cheers to @abenz1267 , Elephant is cool and I wish I could keep it running properly because Omarchy is even cooler with it !
Wish you all the best,
William
