Description

Omarchy 3.2.3 config files are incompatible with Hyprland 0.53.0 due to breaking changes in the hyprlang parsing library.

Environment

  • Omarchy: 3.2.3
  • Hyprland: 0.53.0
  • Kernel: Linux 6.18.2-arch2-1

Errors

After updating Hyprland to 0.53.0, numerous config errors appear:

Config error in file .../looknfeel.conf at line 126: config option <misc:new_window_takes_over_fullscreen> does not exist
Config error in file .../windows.conf at line 2: invalid field type suppressevent
Config error in file .../windows.conf at line 5: invalid field class:.*: missing a value
Config error in file .../1password.conf at line 1: invalid field noscreenshare: missing a value
Config error in file .../hyprshot.conf at line 2: invalid field noanim: missing a value

Root Cause

Hyprland 0.53.0 introduced breaking changes:

  1. `windowrule` deprecated - All rules now require windowrulev2 syntax with parentheses around values: class:(.*)
  2. `misc:new_window_takes_over_fullscreen` removed - This option no longer exists
  3. `layerrule` syntax changed - The noanim directive appears broken

Affected Files

  • ~/.local/share/omarchy/default/hypr/looknfeel.conf
  • ~/.local/share/omarchy/default/hypr/windows.conf
  • ~/.local/share/omarchy/default/hypr/apps/*.conf (all 13 app configs)
  • ~/.local/share/omarchy/config/hypr/input.conf
  • ~/.local/share/omarchy/themes/kanagawa/hyprland.conf

Required Changes

1. Replace all windowrule = with windowrulev2 =

- windowrule = suppressevent maximize, class:.*
+ windowrulev2 = suppressevent maximize, class:(.*)

- windowrule = opacity 0.97 0.9, class:.*
+ windowrulev2 = opacity 0.97 0.9, class:(.*)

- windowrule = noscreenshare, class:^(1[p|P]assword)$
+ windowrulev2 = noscreenshare, class:^(1[p|P]assword)$

2. Remove deprecated misc option

    disable_hyprland_logo = true
    disable_splash_rendering = true
    focus_on_activate = true
    anr_missed_pings = 3
-   new_window_takes_over_fullscreen = 1

3. Comment out broken layerrules (or find new syntax)

- layerrule = noanim, selection
