Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Dictate bar icon errors with "voxtype: command not found" when Voxtype isn't installedrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Omarchy version: 4.0.4-1
CPU: Intel Core i5-6300U
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520 (Skylake-U GT2)

What happened:
Clicking the Dictate icon in the top bar (on a system where Voxtype hasn't been
installed) opens a floating terminal that prints:

bash: line 1: voxtype: command not found
● Done! Press any key to close...

The terminal waits for a keypress before closing (per the presentation
wrapper's normal behavior). Dismissing it by pressing a key is what triggers
a brief (~1 second) black window flash as the floating terminal closes.

Expected:
Same as the F9 / Super+Ctrl+X keybindings and the bar status indicator, which
both check omarchy-cmd-missing voxtype and no-op (or ideally should route to
the installer) when Voxtype isn't present, instead of surfacing a raw
"command not found" error to the user.

Cause:
omarchy-voxtype-config — wired to Dictation.qml's onPressed in
shell/plugins/bar/indicators/Dictation.qml — calls voxtype configure
unconditionally:

omarchy-launch-floating-terminal-with-presentation "voxtype configure"
omarchy-restart-shell

This has no presence check, unlike:
- hypr/bindings/voxtype.lua: if o.cmd_present("voxtype") then ...
- omarchy-voxtype-status: if omarchy-cmd-missing voxtype; then echo idle JSON; exit 0; fi

Steps to reproduce:
1. On an Omarchy install where Voxtype was never installed (skip/dismiss the
first-run "Install Dictation with Voxtype" notification).
2. Click the Dictate icon in the top bar.
3. Observe the "command not found" error in the floating terminal.
4. Press any key to dismiss it; observe the brief black window flash.

Suggested fix:
Guard omarchy-voxtype-config the same way omarchy-voxtype-status does —
e.g. fall back to launching omarchy-voxtype-install when voxtype is
missing, instead of running voxtype configure directly.
