ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Hyprland scratchpad and lock screen render static noise (gray dots) on pure black backgrounds (OLED only)revision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:49 UTC via poll

System details

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700KF, NVIDIA 5080, 3.x.x - 3.4.0

What's wrong?

When activating the scratchpad or lock screen in Hyprland over a pure black background, the black areas render with artifacts, appearing as small gray dots covering the screen.

Steps to Reproduce

Set the background to pure black.

Activate the Hyprland scratchpad or trigger the lock screen.

Observe the black areas on an OLED display.

Expected Behavior

The background should render uniformly; either as a solid pure black or a smooth gray overlay—without any static noise or artifacts.

Actual Behavior

The pure black background is filled with small gray dots, creating a static visual effect.

Additional Context

This rendering issue is specifically visible on my OLED monitor. When viewing the exact same setup and triggering the same actions on an IPS monitor, the issue does not occur, and the black background renders correctly. To be more precise, you physically cannot see the issue. For this reason, one of the included files features a photograph of the oled monitor. I made it a bit more saturated so it is clearly visible. The screenshot contains the "raw" image. However, the screenshot really does not do it justice.

See files below (apologies for the glare, it's a glossy qd-oled).
