Original report
Problem
After Hyprland crash or logout, the SDDM login screen shows but the password input field does not visually update while typing. No cursor appears, no characters are displayed. However, the keyboard IS functional - typing is registered and the password works (just not visible).
Environment
- Machine: MacBookPro16,1 (T2)
- GPU: Intel UHD 630 (i915 active), AMD Navi14 (blacklisted)
- OS: Omarchy Linux 4.0.4, linux-t2 kernel
- Display: Hyprland 0.56.2 + SDDM auto-login
- Two detected outputs: eDP-1 (3072x1920) and Unknown-1 (3584x2240 at 1920x0)
Steps to reproduce
- Let Hyprland crash (or force logout)
- Wait for SDDM greeter screen
- Try to type password
- Observe: no cursor, no characters visible in password field
- Press Enter: password is accepted (input was registered, just not displayed)
What works
- Keyboard input is registered (password works)
- SDDM screen is displayed
- User can log in blind (type password, press Enter)
What doesn't work
- Password field visual feedback (cursor, characters) doesn't update
- Feels frozen but is actually a rendering issue
Possible causes
- SDDM theme rendering issue on i915 DRM
- Qt/Wayland rendering issue after Hyprland crash state
- Dual-monitor configuration (Unknown-1 extending desktop) causing compositor issues
- i915 cursor rendering issue on T2 Mac
Relation to other issues
- Not related to the original lockscreen DPMS wake race (fixed via Service.qml dim-to-5%)
- Might be related to Unknown-1 extended desktop issue (same i915 display path)
- Similar to omarchy#11208 (lock screen freeze after resume) but different trigger
Workaround
- Type password blind and press Enter
- Switch to TTY (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and use command-line login
