Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

linux-omarchy 7.2.5-4; the previous boots ran 7.2.5-3 and showed the same noise, so it is not tied to the 7.2.5-4 bump - plymouth
26.134.222-2, themeomarchy(default), LUKS root via theencrypthook, early KMS via thekmshook (Omarchy'somarchy_hooks.conf) - GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600 (Navi 33,
03:00.0), amdgpu 3.64.0, Display Core 3.2.384 on DCN 3.2.1. Also a Ryzen 9000 iGPU (10:00.0, no outputs) and an ASPEED BMC VGA (0a:00.0) - Monitor: ASUS PA32UCDM on HDMI-A-1, preferred mode 3840x2160@240 Hz

What's wrong?
During the Plymouth LUKS passphrase prompt at boot, a band of random coloured pixel noise flickers across the top ~7% of the panel (full width, roughly the top 150 px of 2160). The rest of the splash (logo, password entry) renders correctly and the prompt is usable. In a 3.8 s phone recording the band is visible in three bursts of about 1.1 s, 0.2 s and 0.6 s, and is absent in between, so it is not a static garbage region but something being re-scanned out intermittently.
Timeline from the journal for this boot (2026-09-17): RTC set the clock at 10:25:33, the recording was made 10:25:57–10:26:01 while the passphrase prompt was up, systemd started at 10:26:07 after the root was unlocked. amdgpu is initialised in the initramfs (early KMS), so Plymouth is drawing through amdgpu, not simpledrm. The only amdgpu messages in the kernel log are two REG_WAIT timeout 1us * 150000 tries - optc32_disable_crtc line:196 lines, but those appear in every boot on this machine, including boots where nobody noticed noise, so they may be unrelated.
The Hyprland session on the same output at the same 3840x2160@240 mode shows no such noise after login.
Expected
The LUKS prompt renders cleanly, without a noise band at the top of the display.
Steps to reproduce
- Omarchy install with LUKS root, default
omarchyPlymouth theme, AMD RX 7600 on HDMI driving a 4K 240 Hz panel. - Reboot and watch the passphrase prompt.
This has been visible on several boots, on both linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3 and 7.2.5-4. The recording attached is from the 2026-09-17 boot.
Notes
This is most likely a kernel amdgpu / display-link issue during early KMS rather than anything in the Plymouth theme script, which only paints a solid background and sprites. Filing here because Omarchy ships the kernel (linux-omarchy), the initramfs hook layout that puts amdgpu in the initramfs, and the Plymouth theme, so a maintainer may know whether the kernel build or the hook order is implicated, and where to send it upstream if not.
Frames from the recording (clean frame, two noise frames, zoomed noise band) are attached.
