Dell XPS 13 pollici 2024 - Omarchy 3.5.1
What's wrong?
The display toggle shortcut introduced in 521c94b (SUPER+CTRL+Delete) is a great addition, but it breaks in this common work workflow:
Steps to reproduce:
- Connect an external monitor.
- Use the shortcut to disable the internal laptop display (e.g. at the start of a desk session).
- At the end of the session, suspend the laptop or lock the session (or simply forget to re-enable the laptop screen beforehand)
- Disconnect the external monitor.
- Wake the laptop (e.g. open the lid or press a key).
- Result: The internal display does not turn back on. The shortcut is unavailable because Hyprland is showing the lock screen, and there's no active display to interact with.
Environment: Dell XPS 13 (2024 / Lunar Lake), but the issue is likely universal on any laptop running Omarchy with an external monitor.
Root cause / discussion:
The omarchy-hyprland-monitor-internal-toggle script guards against disabling the only active monitor, but there's no mechanism to automatically re-enable the internal display when the external one is disconnected while the system is locked or suspended.
A possible direction would be a persistent service (e.g. a udev rule or a hypridle/hyprland event hook) that detects external monitor disconnection and automatically re-enables the internal display. Similar to what tools like [hyprmoncfg](https://hyprmoncfg.dev/) provide (to be tested)
I don't have bandwidth to work on this for the next couple of weeks, maybe in May.
