  • OS: Omarchy 3.8.0
  • Kernel: Linux 7.0.3-arch1-2
  • WM: Hyprland 0.54.3 (Wayland)
  • Machine: Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9 (83GS)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-12450HX (8+4 cores)
  • dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 — driver 595.71.05
  • iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics (Alder Lake-S)

What's Wrong?

Shutdown and restart hang on a black screen when the NVIDIA dGPU is
active. The system never completes a clean shutdown and requires a
force power-off. The issue does not occur when running on iGPU only.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enable the discrete NVIDIA GPU (toggle dGPU active)
  2. Use the system normally under Hyprland
  3. Attempt shutdown or restart
  4. System hangs on black screen indefinitely

Root Cause

journalctl -b -1 shows a kernel NULL pointer dereference in the
nvidia-drm module at shutdown, triggered because Hyprland is SIGKILLed
before the NVIDIA driver unloads cleanly:
