ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Bug: Fresh Omarchy 3.8.3 installation errors on start of Neovim due to missing plugins/theme.luarevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:56 UTC via poll

System details

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X, Intel Arc B580, 128 GB RAM, dual 2 TB NVMe SSDs. Omarchy 3.8.3

What's wrong?

On a completely fresh installation of Omarchy 3.8.3, launching nvim immediately produces the following error:

Failed to load plugins.theme:
cannot open /home/<user>/.config/nvim/lua/plugins/theme.lua:
No such file or directory

This occurs before any user modifications have been made to the Neovim configuration.

Steps to Reproduce
Perform a fresh installation of Omarchy 3.8.3.
Log into the desktop.
Open a terminal.
Run:
nvim

Expected Behaviour

Neovim should launch normally using the default Omarchy configuration.

Actual Behaviour

Neovim errors during startup with:

Failed to load plugins.theme:
cannot open ~/.config/nvim/lua/plugins/theme.lua:
No such file or directory

Additional Information

Version: Omarchy 3.8.3
Installation type: Fresh install
No modifications made to the Neovim configuration before the issue occurred.

The file:
~/.config/nvim/lua/plugins/theme.lua

does not exist immediately after installation.

It appears the installer or first-run setup may not be creating the expected theme.lua file or symbolic link required by the default Neovim configuration.

Impact

Neovim errors but is usable after installation until the missing file or symlink is manually recreated.

Possible Cause

The installation or theme initialization process may be failing to create:

~/.config/nvim/lua/plugins/theme.lua

or the corresponding symlink to the active Omarchy theme.
