Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Update menu: Omarchy entry icon (U+E900) renders as missing glyphrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 11:56 UTC via poll

Summary

In the Omarchy Menu, the Update → Omarchy entry renders its leading icon as a broken character / box instead of a Nerd Font glyph, while every other menu entry's icon renders correctly.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Omarchy Menu.
  2. Navigate to Update.
  3. Observe the first entry, Omarchy — its icon shows as a missing-glyph character, whereas Channel, Config, Extra Themes, etc. all show proper icons.
  4. <img width="590" height="1258" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a988ef75-62cb-469b-ac06-ec738e1995bb" />

Root cause

In `bin/omarchy-menu`, show_update_menu() uses icon codepoint `U+E900` for the Omarchy entry:

case $(menu "Update" "\ue900\u2009 Omarchy\n󰔫  Channel\n  Config\n…") in

U+E900 is not covered by the Nerd Font glyph set on a default install (verified against JetBrainsMono Nerd Font and CaskaydiaMono Nerd Font), so it falls back to a non-Nerd font and renders as a broken character. The other entries use valid Nerd Font codepoints and render fine:

Menu entryIcon codepointGlyph present?
OmarchyU+E900❌ missing
ChannelU+F052B✅ present
ConfigU+E615✅ present

U+E900 lives in the original Nerd Font v2 private-use range. The v2→v3 remap relocated/removed many of these codepoints, so this entry no longer resolves on current Nerd Font builds shipped with Omarchy.

Environment

  • Omarchy: 3.8.4 (commit edce5809)
  • File: bin/omarchy-menu, function show_update_menu()

Suggested fix

Replace U+E900 with a codepoint that is covered by the shipped Nerd Fonts — e.g. a glyph from the nf-md-* set (supplementary private-use area, U+F0001+) consistent with the icons already used elsewhere in the menu.

## Summary

In the Omarchy Menu, the **Update → Omarchy** entry renders its leading icon as a broken character / box instead of a Nerd Font glyph, while every other menu entry's icon renders correctly.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Open the Omarchy Menu.
2. Navigate to **Update**.
3. Observe the first entry, **Omarchy** — its icon shows as a missing-glyph character, whereas Channel, Config, Extra Themes, etc. all show proper icons.
4. <img width="590" height="1258" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a988ef75-62cb-469b-ac06-ec738e1995bb" />

## Root cause

In [`bin/omarchy-menu`](../blob/main/bin/omarchy-menu), `show_update_menu()` uses icon codepoint **`U+E900`** for the Omarchy entry:

```bash
case $(menu "Update" "\ue900\u2009 Omarchy\n󰔫  Channel\n  Config\n…") in
```

`U+E900` is **not covered** by the Nerd Font glyph set on a default install (verified against `JetBrainsMono Nerd Font` and `CaskaydiaMono Nerd Font`), so it falls back to a non-Nerd font and renders as a broken character. The other entries use valid Nerd Font codepoints and render fine:

| Menu entry | Icon codepoint | Glyph present? |
|---|---|---|
| Omarchy | `U+E900` | ❌ missing |
| Channel | `U+F052B` | ✅ present |
| Config | `U+E615` | ✅ present |

`U+E900` lives in the original Nerd Font **v2** private-use range. The v2→v3 remap relocated/removed many of these codepoints, so this entry no longer resolves on current Nerd Font builds shipped with Omarchy.

## Environment

- Omarchy: 3.8.4 (commit `edce5809`)
- File: `bin/omarchy-menu`, function `show_update_menu()`

## Suggested fix

Replace `U+E900` with a codepoint that is covered by the shipped Nerd Fonts — e.g. a glyph from the `nf-md-*` set (supplementary private-use area, `U+F0001+`) consistent with the icons already used elsewhere in the menu.
