Original report
ai;dr I'm getting a new warning in the latest codex informing me that its running without the shared background server. I don't know if this is an intentional choice from omarchy dev channel, but I think the use of the shared server is a good thing that it seems we lose in the latest.
Description
Omarchy's cy alias launches codex --approve-for-me. With Codex CLI 0.157.1, this displays:
Running without the shared background server: command-line configuration overrides (-c, --enable, --disable, or --search) requires embedded mode.
The shortcut therefore does not use Codex's shared background server. omarchy-agent launches Codex with the same flag and appears to have the same compatibility issue.
Steps to reproduce
- Install Codex through Omarchy and use Codex CLI 0.157.1.
- Open a new terminal and run
cy(or select Codex as the default agent and launch it through Omarchy). - Observe the message above instead of connecting to the shared background server.
Expected behavior
Omarchy's auto-review shortcut should start Codex with the shared server, or explicitly document that auto-review uses embedded mode if that is the intended tradeoff.
Cause and configuration caveat
default/bash/aliases:49 sets alias cy='codex --approve-for-me', and bin/omarchy-agent:95 passes the same flag. Omarchy's Codex install step (install/user/mise.sh) installs the CLI but does not configure approvals_reviewer = "auto_review". Removing the flag alone would therefore lose auto-review on a fresh install. My personal Codex config has that setting, so a local alias cy='codex' works for me but is not a general Omarchy fix.
