Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Quattro (4.0) install fails: fix-synaptic-touchpad.sh psmouse module mismatch + vulkan.sh offline mirror missing filesrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

System details

Lenovo ThinkPad (Intel graphics), dual-boot alongside Windows using the new Quattro "Free space install" feature. Live ISO kernel: 7.1.8-arch1-Watanare-T2-2-t2. Reproduced across two separate USB writes (Rufus ISO mode and Rufus DD mode, ISO checksum verified both times)

What's wrong?

Two separate failures during the "Configuring system" phase, both reproducible from a clean install every time:

1. `fix-synaptic-touchpad.sh` fails with a kernel version mismatch:

modprobe: FATAL: Module psmouse not found in directory /lib/modules/7.1.8-arch1-Watanare-T2-2-t2
[Failed]: /usr/share/omarchy/install/hardware/fix-synaptic-touchpad.sh (exit code: 1)

The live ISO's running kernel (uname -r) is 7.1.8-arch1-Watanare-T2-2-t2, but the target system's installed kernel modules live under /lib/modules/7.1.8-arch1-3/ (confirmed via ls /mnt/lib/modules/). Since arch-chroot doesn't change the running kernel, modprobe inside the chroot checks the wrong (live ISO) module path and fails to find psmouse.ko.zst, even though it exists in the target's own module directory.

Workaround: edited the script's modprobe psmouse synaptics_intertouch=1 line to append 2>/dev/null || true, then resumed the install manually.

2. `vulkan.sh` fails retrieving packages from a local offline cache, regardless of internet connectivity:

error: failed retrieving file 'vulkan-intel-1:26.1.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst' from disk : Could not open file /var/cache/omarchy/mirror/offline/vulkan-intel-1:26.1.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
error: failed retrieving file 'vulkan-mesa-implicit-layers-1:26.1.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst' from disk : Could not open file /var/cache/omarchy/mirror/offline/vulkan-mesa-implicit-layers-1:26.1.7-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
warning: failed to retrieve some files
error: failed to commit transaction (download library error)
[Failed]: /usr/share/omarchy/install/hardware/vulkan.sh (exit code: 1)

Occurs identically whether or not the machine has live internet (tested with both WiFi and Ethernet, confirmed reachable via ping archlinux.org). This appears to be the Quattro offline-installer mode pulling from a baked-in package cache at /var/cache/omarchy/mirror/offline/ that's simply missing these two files, rather than falling back to a live mirror.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot Omarchy 4.0 (Quattro) ISO
2. Select target disk → Free space install (dual-boot alongside Windows)
3. Proceed through install; failure occurs during "Configuring system" phase

Expected: Install completes without manual intervention, or falls back to live mirrors when the offline cache is incomplete.

Actual: Install halts twice, requiring manual script patching and resuming via arch-chroot /mnt env ... /usr/bin/omarchy-apply-system --install-user <user> --first-install to get past each failure.

### What's wrong?

Two separate failures during the "Configuring system" phase, both reproducible from a clean install every time:

**1. `fix-synaptic-touchpad.sh` fails with a kernel version mismatch:**
```
modprobe: FATAL: Module psmouse not found in directory /lib/modules/7.1.8-arch1-Watanare-T2-2-t2
[Failed]: /usr/share/omarchy/install/hardware/fix-synaptic-touchpad.sh (exit code: 1)
Since `arch-chroot` doesn't change the running kernel, `modprobe` inside the chroot checks the wrong (live ISO) module path and fails to find `psmouse.ko.zst`, even though it exists in the target's own module directory.
Workaround: edited the script's `modprobe psmouse synaptics_intertouch=1` line to append `2>/dev/null || true`, then resumed the install manually.
**2. `vulkan.sh` fails retrieving packages from a local offline cache, regardless of internet connectivity:**
