Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

System details
- Omarchy: 4.0.4-1
- Hyprland: 0.56.2-2
- Aquamarine: 0.15.0-2
- Kernel: 7.2.5-3-omarchy
- Hardware: Dell Vostro 5470, Intel Core i7-4510U
- Graphics: Intel Haswell-ULT i915 (HDMI/eDP); NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M using nouveau
- Internal display: eDP-1, 1366x768
- External display: HDMI-A-1, Dell P2425H, 1920x1080@60
What happened
When using external-only display mode (eDP-1 disabled and HDMI-A-1 enabled), the laptop went idle and the display was blanked/locked. On wake, the external display/session appeared frozen and the lock screen was not usable. Switching to another VT with Ctrl+Alt+F2 and returning, then re-enabling the laptop display with the monitor shortcut, restored the graphical session and allowed login.
Steps to reproduce
- Connect the Dell P2425H over HDMI.
- Disable the internal display using Omarchy's internal-monitor toggle, leaving HDMI-A-1 as the only active output.
- Leave the session idle until the screensaver/lock path runs (configured at 150/300 seconds).
- Wake the machine.
- Observe that the external display/lock screen is unusable or frozen.
- Ctrl+Alt+F2, then return to the graphical VT. Re-enable the internal display if necessary; the session becomes usable again.
Expected behavior
The lock screen should remain visible and interactive on HDMI-A-1 after idle/DPMS wake, without requiring a VT switch or re-enabling eDP-1.
Logs and observations
Hyprland/Aquamarine logs show repeated failures during the output transition:
drm: Disabling output HDMI-A-1
atomic drm request: failed to commit: Invalid argument
drm: Modesetting HDMI-A-1 with [email protected]
atomic drm request: failed to commit: Invalid argument
...
libseat: Disabling seat
...
libseat: Enabling seat
drm: Restoring after VT switch
drm: Restoring crtc 72 ... 1366x768
atomic drm request: failed to commit: Invalid argumentThe Omarchy shell also logged:
Layershell screen does not correspond to a real screen. Letting the compositor pick.
Not creating lock surface ... as it is not backed by a valid wayland output. There was no observed Hyprland crash, kernel panic, GPU hang, or GPU reset. The HDMI output was eventually restored after the internal display was re-enabled. The current user configuration uses mode = "preferred" with automatic monitor placement; no custom idle daemon configuration was found.
This appears related to the existing DPMS/lock and external-monitor reports, but differs in that the failure occurs with the internal monitor disabled and recovery requires a VT switch plus monitor reconfiguration.
