Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Surface Laptop Studio 2: offer an opt-in linux-surface touchpad profilerevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Hardware

  • Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2
  • Touchpad controller: Intel Touch Host Controller, PCI 8086:51d1 at 0000:00:10.7
  • Touchpad HID: 045e:0c46

Problem

With Omarchy 4.0.4 and linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3, the haptic touchpad is present but does not produce pointer events. The ithc driver can need a manual PCI unbind/rebind, after which the raw HID device appears, but iptsd fails for the touchpad with a connection timeout. The touchscreen and stylus work.

Verified working setup

The touchpad works after installing and booting:

  • linux-surface 6.19.8.arch1-3
  • linux-surface-headers
  • iptsd 3.1.0-1
  • the ITHC DKMS driver for the 8086:51d1 controller

Limine was configured with default_entry: Omarchy/linux-surface; the existing Omarchy kernel remained installed as a fallback.

The Linux Surface project documents the required IPTS/ITHC kernel options, and reports the SLS2 haptic touchpad working with its kernel plus iptsd:

Proposal

Please consider an explicit, opt-in Surface Laptop Studio 2 support installer or hardware profile. It could:

  1. detect Microsoft Corporation / Surface Laptop Studio 2 via DMI;
  2. add the official linux-surface repository and signing key;
  3. install linux-surface, its headers, iptsd, and the required ITHC driver;
  4. retain linux-omarchy as a fallback and select the Surface kernel in Limine after confirmation;
  5. explain that a reboot is required.

This keeps the general Omarchy kernel unchanged while providing a supported path for hardware that needs the out-of-tree Surface patches. I can test a proposed implementation on this device.

## Hardware

- Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2
- Touchpad controller: Intel Touch Host Controller, PCI `8086:51d1` at `0000:00:10.7`
- Touchpad HID: `045e:0c46`

## Problem

With Omarchy 4.0.4 and `linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3`, the haptic touchpad is present but does not produce pointer events. The `ithc` driver can need a manual PCI unbind/rebind, after which the raw HID device appears, but `iptsd` fails for the touchpad with a connection timeout. The touchscreen and stylus work.

## Verified working setup

The touchpad works after installing and booting:

- `linux-surface 6.19.8.arch1-3`
- `linux-surface-headers`
- `iptsd 3.1.0-1`
- the ITHC DKMS driver for the `8086:51d1` controller

Limine was configured with `default_entry: Omarchy/linux-surface`; the existing Omarchy kernel remained installed as a fallback.

The Linux Surface project documents the required IPTS/ITHC kernel options, and reports the SLS2 haptic touchpad working with its kernel plus `iptsd`:

## Proposal

Please consider an explicit, opt-in **Surface Laptop Studio 2 support** installer or hardware profile. It could:

1. detect `Microsoft Corporation` / `Surface Laptop Studio 2` via DMI;
2. add the official linux-surface repository and signing key;
3. install `linux-surface`, its headers, `iptsd`, and the required ITHC driver;
4. retain `linux-omarchy` as a fallback and select the Surface kernel in Limine after confirmation;
5. explain that a reboot is required.

This keeps the general Omarchy kernel unchanged while providing a supported path for hardware that needs the out-of-tree Surface patches. I can test a proposed implementation on this device.
